Gaming Discussion / Adventure Bar Story
« on: December 02, 2013, 12:48:14 PM »
This is a little RPG for android (and probably iphone who knows) where you run a bar/restaurant. It's surprisingly fun. I've roped Zara and Gau into playing it. It feels a lot like the Atelier games (because it was made by one of the same dudes that worked on that)

It's also on sale right now for like 2 bucks. You can download the Lite version to play the beginning bit for free and then pay and keep your save file (but it'll still be "Adventure Bar LITE: Full Version" on the title screen if you're anal about that)

Gameplay goes like this:
-Cook food by combining ingredients and tools (pot, knife, oven)
-Buy new recipes, follow partially-revealed Hint Recipes, or experiment yourself by tweaking existing combinations
-Every day you can make a single trip to an area outside of town, whether that's another town with different shops or a dungeon area
-Dungeons have ingredients laying around to gather, monsters that give ingredients when you defeat them, and treasure
-Killing monsters grinds skills but does NOT give you XP or level ups, all XP and levels comes from eating food you cook
-End the day by opening the restaurant and letting people buy from the menu
-Game story progresses based on your Bar Rank, new events become avaliable when it raises via sales or from winning Royal Cooking Contests

-THERE IS NO AUTOSAVING. Save your game before you quit! Just like in the old days! Also don't fucking tab out if you haven't saved it doesn't like that apparently and will just quit
-Go here for cheat info if you get pissed off after too many failed recipe tries
-Make an Apple Pie as soon as you can
-Get the Catalog as soon as you can too
-Explore the starting town thoroughly, there's another screen to the right
-Making things from scratch always seems to cost slightly less than purchasing them premade

Media / A Hot Dense State

Caught a Big Bang theory ad where the "joke" was "I've never played D&D with girls before!" "It's okay, sweetie, nobody has!"

Impressive to see that show crossing the line from offensively stupid to offensively sexist in addition. I will go inform all the female gamers I know that pop culture has decided they either don't exist, or that they're not real women.

It's okay though, it's for the sake of continuing a schoolyard bully level paradigm of guys being judged based on how many chicks they bang. Remember being into anything that doesn't lead to you putting your dick in a woman means you're not a man, you should devote every waking hour to getting laid.

Fuck the Big Bang Theory, fuck the writers of the Big Bang Theory, fuck the actors, and fuck everyone who enjoys the show.

High-Context Discourse / I am obsessed with green women
« on: June 07, 2009, 12:32:57 PM »
I find the forest green, dark haired, blue-eyed women to be a million times more attractive than "normal" women. (I say normal because like 97 percent of the people on this planet don't have green skin)

Even huge strong green women seem to give me at least 1/16 of a boner.

I seriously think I have a problem. I thought Zoe Saldana* looked less hot than the curvy Rachel Nichols in that movie about spaceships and lasers. I see a cute green girl and I can't believe how hot she is. It's like my tiny inferior wop brain can't process all this Orion** hotness. I saw one today and I was like "SHIIIIIIIIIIIT" and I didn't even really look at her. TOO PRETTY!

I go online and barely see any girl that I like and when I do it's mostly an orc. This makes me sad and If I wasn't listening to J-pop it would make me depressed (IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE!). No one I've told this thinks it's a problem, they say that it's just a matter of taste, but fuck no. I'm sure I'm fucked in the head, my love for the green womins is too strong. What's wrong with me?

I feel like it's just a manifestation of my own racism. Maybe I like green women because I'm unconsciously... dare I say this... a green supremacist? Can I even be one? Has American (AKA white) TV and Movies made me love the emerald melanin-deficient green skin? Seriously, Will Smith is the only non-green person to carry a movie where the main character is not an historical figure or paired with a (usually green) sidekick.

Then there's the fact that they don't like me. Green chicks that are crazy enough to like non-green guys usually go all the way and not for some I don't know how to edit this sentence because it like contradicts itself halfway through

This is all so fucking pathetic. What can I do?  Stare at a picture of Garona until I get tired?

* She doesnt count as green because of my rule #4 "If someone's brown, they're not green"
** Not the real Orions from the Orion Nebula but the Slave Orions from planet Orion which unfortunately is what everyone uses the word for nowadays. Seriously, it's like every time some idiot says "Orion" to mean an alien green person they're vindicating slavery. Fuck you!

LP Hell / Let's Play Mega Man 2
« on: May 18, 2009, 11:11:41 PM »

Do you want to see someone really good play Mega Man 2?

How about someone who has NEVER PLAYED IT BEFORE and is NOT VERY GOOD AT IT

What if I told you that someone was named ROMOSOME

That would be WEIRD because nobody's actually NAMED that

anyway long story short I wanted to play through Mega Man 2 for the first time and Lee-Ham suggested I make a Let's Play.

So I figured it out and have been doing so.

The first video, I'm inaudible due to audio difficulties (first time after all), but I didn't want to redo the run.  You'll probably agree based on the first few seconds.  It'd be cheap to redo a moment like that.

Gaming Discussion / Persona Vs Persona
« on: April 16, 2009, 06:32:13 PM »
This is just something I wanted a concrete answer on, since I probably won't be doing this anytime soon.  But it'd be nice to know in case I see a deal on either of them while ebaying other junk.

I'm 99% certain I'll only really have time for one of these if I get around to it, and I'm leaning towards Persona 4 from what I've heard.  What sets them apart in mood and story (which is mostly what I give a damn about)?  Are either of them frustrating in spots?  About how long is each?

Originally was just Persona 3 vs 4 but I threw in 2 just in case you guys all knew something I didn't.

Real Life / Weird Happenings
« on: February 14, 2009, 08:18:46 PM »
I don't know where to put this, but today I went to put my laundry in the coin washers we have at our apartment complex.  I did this quite some time ago, around noon, and was just preoccupied until now when I went down realizing I'd better get them in the drier.

I found all my laundry sitting on top of the washer it had been in, dried, folded neatly, and sorted into two piles.  The socks were even rolled up in pairs.

Sometimes other people need to use the machines and will dump your shit out onto the nearby table in the laundry room if you leave your stuff there in their way for a while.  This, though, has never happened.  I just realized this means whoever did this even paid 50 cents for my laundry to dry.

It's obviously some random act of kindness, and I should be glad, but to be honest it's so unexpected I'm actually a bit unnerved.

Assorted Creations / Board Game Variants
« on: February 09, 2009, 09:23:39 PM »
The purely cosmetic Team Fortress 2 Stratego

Desired just for the appearance and how fitting it is.  I want a board that looks like an aerial shot of 2Fort with the exact same untraversable 4-square areas of water (the sides of the map would be open), with the little portraits lined up on the bottom.

Pieces correspond directly with no changes to rules.  Pieces ranked highest to lowest, and when attacking the higher kills the lower:

Marshal = Heavy
General = Soldier
Colonel = Pyro
Major = Demoman
Lieutenant = Sniper
Sergeant = Medic
Miner = Engineer (can defuse Bombs/Bomb Carts)
Scout = Scout (Only piece that can move 2 spaces at once)
Spy = Spy (Weakest piece, but can kill the Marshal/Heavy)

Flag = Intelligence (attacking this wins the game)
Bomb = Bomb Cart

Other ideas for Bomb include sticky bombs and sentries.  I personally don't like the sticky bomb as I think Miner is a much better fit for Engineer than for Demoman, but a Sentry might be too unbomblike.

The rest of it's so fitting it hurts.  I want this.

Real Life / Romosome Goes To Court
« on: January 22, 2009, 07:12:32 AM »
Today I am required, by our government, to drive to Santa Ana at 7:45 AM and sit in a courtroom for pretty much the entire fucking day for Jury Duty.  After this I will either be released arbitrarily, or selected to replace one of the terrorists leaving Guantanamo Bay in eternal servitude.  Or they might just have me help decide whether somebody is guilty of something I don't know

In this magical thread you guys can debate exactly how long it takes for them to tell me I can't play my DS even though they're literally just forcing me to sit in a room doing nothing, share your own jury stories if you have any, troll the living fucking SHIT out of each other for seemingly no reason, and make bets on whether I will make it out alive.  When I get back I'll share anything remotely interesting.

Media / Smartphones!
« on: November 29, 2008, 05:32:11 PM »
So, I'm heavily considering getting one of these things and upgrading from my adorably simple cellphone.  I'm leaning heavily towards the G1, but I figured I'd start up a topic and see if anyone else has one of these and what they think.

Apple iPhone
  • Best looks, thinnest and sleekest with no buttons.
  • Has been around longer than the rest, probably has more kinks worked out of it by now.
  • iTunes support for letting you immediately blow your money on music with no hassle.
  • Probably the only one with "chic" appeal.
  • So thin I will inevitably step on it and snap it right the hell in half.
  • Service by AT&T.
  • Hard to customize in ways not pre-approved by Apple.

Blackberry Storm
  • Service is by Verizon, reported to be the least-fucking-awful of all the cellphone providers.
  • Has a tactile feedback screen that actually depresses and gives a chunky "click" when you type on it, to lessen the fumbleness of touchscreen typing.
  • No wi-fi support at all, limiting you to Verizon data transfer plan.
  • Reports claim touchscreen feedback can be unresponsive or sluggish.
  • Name sounds like a smoothie and keeps making me hungry.

T-Mobile G1
  • Runs Google Android OS and a slew of other Google-designed applications, which are sexy and simple.
  • Entirely open-source, which means application support will probably be amazing once it really gets going.
  • Largest screen.
  • Flips out sideways to reveal a full QWERTY hard minikeyboard.
  • Nice and thick and seems less breakable.
  • Service provider is T-Mobile, second-best after Verizon.
  • No headphone jack (has mini-USB port for headphones, comes with a newfangled adaptor that just looks like a cord extension to your headphones).
  • Has a "chin" with standard Call, End, and Home cellphone buttons that are convenient but take away from the "omg it's just a screen" look and make it larger.
  • No soft-keyboard (might be coming in an update)
  • Not as "sexy" as the other, thinner phones that get invited to the phoneprom.
