I've noticed that a few people are starting to play Dark Arisen due to it being on PS+, so I decided to start a new game and actually try and beat it. I still love this game, but I wish the stat allocation wasn't in the game to stress me out. In case you didn't know, when you level up you gain stats based on what vocation you are. Wizards get mostly magic stuff, warriors get strength, health, and base defense, and striders get a little bit of everything along with extra stamina. The advanced vocations are even more extreme with this, giving you less in their vestigial stats. I think the hybrid vocations give you more stats overall than you would usually get, but they're exclusive to the PC. In the end it probably doesn't matter, but I hate thinking about it. You don't need to min-max at all, but for the super endboss battle and for some of the bosses in the expansion content it helps.

Also for everyone who hasn't loaded up the original game before, this is what the title screen was like.

Hey does anyone want to do this and if so what days? I'd like to keep it at the same time I was doing my other remedial shows (10pm est), but it might be negotiable.

Real Life / Adventures in overclocking
« on: November 04, 2013, 04:16:26 AM »
So over the past two weeks I've been slowly trying to make my 3.6 ghz overclock on my phenom x4 955 stable. I think I finally have something going where the voltage going to the cpu is at 3.8 volts, and finally I turned off all of the "save power by making things not work as well" options on my motherboard. I really aught to let a stress test run longer than 2 hours, but I'm too impatient for that. In the end, I think this time I have it stable just because I turned off the thing that was keeping the voltage lower than what I set it to, but I guess I'll see if it is or not when my computer spazzes out while I do something a week down the line.

I couldn't stay away from doing another LP where I can kick everything.

LP Hell / Lord British got stuck in a well. Let's Play Ultima 5
« on: July 20, 2012, 11:22:08 AM »
But before we do that, we have a decision to make. There are two options for playing this game: Either the regular PC version, or the Dungeon Siege remake, Lazarus. There are problems with both. With the old PC version... it's the old PC version. You have to deal with the text parser and all of the other antiquated mechanics. I can at least install a mod that takes all of the bullshit runic signs out of the game so I don't have to decipher crap.

The problems with the Dungeon Siege are a bit more varied. The game runs poorly on my computer since DS is so old. Due to a few engine limitations, some of the game mechanics are different. The creators of the mod fleshed out the dialogue system so the writing is about on par with Ultima 7. This means the dialogue is more interesting, but it means there is a shitton more, and there is no text dump so I would have to either transcribe it myself or use a million screenshots.

The choice is up to you guys. I am playing this mostly blind, so either way I am going to be bumbling town to town. One thing to keep in mind is that in Ultima 5, the classes were narrowed down to Warrior, Bard, and Wizard, but in the DS remake all of the classes are restored. This makes the game more "interesting."

Edit: I will say now that a lot of the mechanics missing in Lazarus are movement/travel based, and it might make the game more annoying.

Edit2: Playing the old PC version would open up porting my character to ultima 6 if I ever decide to LP that later (I might)

[15:15] <+Yuyuko> We need to lock all the spambots in a single thread and see if they start responding to each other
[15:15] <+Yuyuko> It'll either be hilarious or theyll merge into superspambot

Let's see if that bot posts in here. If so, I think I found something new to play with.  :glee:

So me and Patito are going to be getting this game on PSN. I am going to offer 4 lucky dudes the opportunity to jump on a gameshare account I have with this game and all of the DLC characters. If you buy into my gameshare it's 5 bucks, otherwise the base game is 15 bucks. I wanted all of the pretty characters so I bought them, and those totaled up to 10 bucks extra.

If you guys haven't heard of this game before, it is multiplayer 2d exploratory Castlevania. It's been out for a while on XBOX, but about a week ago it finally came out for the PS3.

This is a thread for retarded game bugs you have found.

I didn't find this, but this is pretty good. Garrison from Talking Time found this bug all by himself.

The Best Draygon Fight

Apparently if you manage to kill draygon as it is off screen and also moving out of the room it has to loop all the way through the game back to the room to die.

High-Context Discourse / New, spam seeking users

I have been clearing out the pending users for about a week now. I almost thought that one person wasn't a spambot. Turns out the IP and email had about 5000 reports of spamming. Welp.

Another interesting thing is we keep having sexcams try joining the boards. I am not sure how a sexcam would work, but I might be imagining it wrong.

Gaming Discussion / Stupid videogame playing stories.

This is a thread to talk about how you've done stupid stuff in games. Here's one I am stealing about Hitman Blood Money.

Quote from: Some guy from Something Awful
Blood Money's shoddy cover "system" can be hilarious sometimes. Yesterday I was playing the Mardi Gras level. I knocked out the courier, killed the female assassin and used a waiter disguise to find out where the male assassin was* (business as usual). He was in the room above the latin bar, which has lots of things to hide behind. While doing so, I noticed his sniper rifle leaning against a piano and I promptly got a wonderful idea: I would steal his sniper rifle without him noticing.

Turns out, that wasn't all that hard with all the cover and the AI's limited awareness. I threw the sniper rifle in the kitchen below where it landed on the sink, yet the cook didn't gave it all that much attention. I grabbed the courier's disguise (luckily I didn't hide him in a container with his suit still on) and delivered the payment for the assassination. Then real life intervened for a bit, but I left the game running with 47 back as a waiter in the latin bar.

A half hour later I returned to find an empty room above the bar, a sniper rifle still on the sink and a politician still alive and breathing. Being very curious I used the map to locate where the male assassin had gone, only to find him in the same room as his boss. If they talked to each other, well... that must have been one awkward conversation.

*I deliberately decided against using the map to locate targets.

Wait.. say that again... you LOST your sniper rifle?

So what is everyone's predictions? I am thinking that about 70% of Sony's keynote is either going to be about their new handheld dealy or security. The rest of the keynote will be Uncharted 3 and probably Twisted Metal.

Gaming Discussion / Brink: Thuggalos vs Judge Dredd

Get SMART Series: General Gameplay

Brink is looking pretty awesome. It's going to have a lot of character customization, which means that it will mostly be a race to find the most ridiculous outfit combo. It's also going to have on the fly co-op for the campaign. The nice thing about it is that it sounds like it is going to have a lot of mobility involved in fighting. The lighter units will be able to parkour all over the place to sneak behind the enemy while the other classes bring the pain with larger weapons. Splash Damage can usually make somewhat interesting games so I think this will be fun for a while.

Don't let this post sway you into buying it though; you should definitely do some research on your own. I read up enough to want to buy it and I hate spoiling games by reading too much per-release content about it.
