We've already had the hype of Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, and the Villager.  Sonic is returning now.

I'm hoping Ness, Lucas, and Wolf all make the cut, as they were my favorite characters in Brawl.

Thaddeus Boyd's Panel of Death / Not-Quite A School Shooting in Georgia
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:47:03 AM »
Oh boy, here we go again...

Just saw it on CNN's broadcast, there's nothing about it up on the major news network in the way of details, but here's the scoop:

There are reports of shots fired at an elementary school in Decatur, GA.

I hope nobody's been hurt.

UPDATE: Nobody hurt, suspect in custody, kids being evacuated.

Making a tradition out of this, I suppose.

It's another midterm election, and the Republicans have some teeth to come back and possibly turn the Senate around.

Mongrel, back in the 2012 thread, found a neat breakdown of the senators up for re-election.  I was wondering if we could find one of those again.

The two big things that Republicans have to mobilize their base:

1. The Obamacare pushback for employer mandates last weekend.

2. NSA.

Regarding that second point, given the length of memory of the average voter, the Republicans could easily frame the NSA datamining stuff as "All Obama's Fault."

I also don't think the economy is going to play much to it, as the economy is still on the mend after 2012.

I've been working on this for the past month or so.

The idea is relatively simple and easier said than done: Beat the Enderdragon on Hardcore Mode.

I'm on World 11 as of the latest episode.  Things aren't going well.

Also, I'm working on a "clip show"-style intro ditty, and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Thaddeus Boyd's Panel of Death / My Representation is AWESOME!!!
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:36:34 PM »
Keeping with the trend of making new threads in a board that hasn't had too many new threads in a long time, I had this idea:

Those of you in the US, as well as anyone else with a parliamentary system of government in some fashion, tell stories about your elected representatives!  Try to stick with the legislative branch of the federal government, but by all means, if your municipal or state representatives are doing good or bad things, drop 'em here!  I'll get us kicked off.

My representative is now Louie Gohmert, Republican.  He serves a district of Texas covering the areas of Nacogdoches, Tyler, and Lufkin.  I didn't vote for him, as he was here before I was.  He's been around for a while, from the sound of it.  I'd like to at least get the chance to meet him the next time he's in the neighborhood, but BOY HOWDY, is this guy...

He takes Obama's bill name for his new jobs plan and slaps it on a two-page thing of his own.

I highly encourage you all to read it.  It's only two pages, for chrissakes.

I love my congressman.

LP Hell / NUZLOCKE CHALLENGE: Six Months Later
« on: March 24, 2011, 08:49:59 PM »

March 24, 20XX

Six months.  Has it really been that long?  Six months ago, I tried to prove I was the very best, like no one ever was.  My friends.  They were slaughtered by the lord of the skies of Johto, Falkner.  Some might call him a pansy, but he was the one who ended my short-lived attempt at being the Pokemon Master of Johto.  I swore I would never get involved with Pokemon ever again.  So I left Johto, possibly forever.

I drifted, mostly.  Taking a job as a gas station attendant for a few weeks, then moving on.  I never wanted to settle down, as something here or there would remind me of the painful times.  Seriously, Pokemon Centers are like fucking Starbucks, these days.  Every convenience store now stocks Pokeballs and Potions.  Seems like I would drift further, and the Pokemon world would catch up to me.  So I gave up, one day, and thus, began my barhopping career in Castelia City.  The bartenders never ask questions.  Nobody in this city gives a damn.  Sure, the Pokemon trainers are always coming and going, fights breaking out in the busy city streets.  But that's the beauty of the big city: if one street is crowded by Pokemon fights, just take another street.

Late one night, I found myself staggering out of my usual haunt at last call, drunkenly stumbling toward the place I called home that week.  Landlord'll probably catch me tonight, I won't have the rent money, and he'll kick me to the curb.  Fuck 'em.

However, tonight would be different.  As I staggered home, I came across someone I hadn't seen in months.  Since my old Hoenn days: the newly crowned Pokemon Champion of Hoenn, R^2.  "Long time, no see, Dohl."  Trying to convince myself this was a hallucination, I tried to turn and go around him, but I ended up crashing in to a dumpster, and blacked out.

I woke up to sunlight blazing across my eyes in a very swank hotel room, with R^2 sitting in the corner, watching me.  It was kinda creepy, but whatever.

"You're a fuckin' mess, Dohl.  What happened to you?" he asked.

"Get bent, high-n-mighty Magikarp goon," I growled back, the sound of a thousand Machamps running doubletime inside of my skull.

"Johto must have been brutal."

"...the fuck do YOU know?!  Falkner took...he took my friends from me!"

R^2 looked at me for a long time, then spoke.  "...Falkner?  Fucking Falkner?  He's got, what, two birds that barely qualify as Pokemon, and they tore you to shreds?!"

"I took the grass Pokemon from Professor Elm."

R^2 facepalmed.

I spoke again.  "Why the hell did you bring me here?"

R^2 reached in to his pocket and pulled out a small envelope.  "Being the Hoenn champion has its privileges.  I've been all over the world, meeting and greeting the greatest minds in the field of Pokemon research.  There's one in this region who would like to meet you.  Her name is Juniper."

He held the envelope out to me.  I took it from him and opened it.  Inside was a letter from Juniper, introducing herself, a bus ticket to Nuvema Town, and a photograph.  When I pulled it out of the envelope, R^2 spoke to me.  "That's from me, actually."  It was a photograph of a Pidgeotto, smashing a lit Cuban in to a Machop's face.  I looked at R^2, who simply smiled.  "I'm sure you could draw some inspiration from it."

I rubbed my head and looked at the bus ticket.  "Am I really going to go through with this again?"  R^2 chuckled.

"Of course.  It's in your blood, same as me."

Alright, guys.  Since I can't draw worth a shit, I'm doing this shit in the form of a journal.  WHO'S MY STARTER GONNA BE?  Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott?

A bit of a misnomer, but sure to draw some eyes.

More specifically, I'm tired of the political powerplay garbage that is going on in today's world.  Office-holders aren't chosen by the people, but by corporations that candidates cozy up to.  So bloody annoying.

I think I said it best to Constantine last night:

"It's like more than 500 people trying to play a single game of chess."

An interesting curiosity.  Now I can earn achievements without farming!  YAAAAAAAY

In other news, the three new Natascha variants.  The first is the current form of Natascha with the Heavy's original spin up/rev down time.  The second has a damage/speed falloff, and the third slashes Heavy's HP down to 225.

Holy shit.

Thaddeus Boyd's Panel of Death / Schoolteachers and Tenure
« on: November 02, 2010, 04:36:21 AM » looks like Inafune has the same issue with the game development industry that I have with bad public school teachers with tenure: it causes stagnation and a decline in quality product.

Just for the record: I'm talking about teachers who are hemmoraging public money by either not teaching or those who remain on payroll pending disciplinary action, and spend an entire day in an office doing nothing and collecting a paycheck.

1012 Brontolympic Pre-Events / TF2 Event Discussion
« on: October 10, 2010, 06:07:21 AM »
Hello!  It's Dohl, your friendly neighborhood organizer of events involving guns, rockets, and bombs!

I'm here to get your input on something very very important.  Namely, which would you guys prefer to see?  Vote in the poll!

I know this will depend on how many people are in a nation, so...yeah.

I thought I'd get this thread kicked off early on the lighter side:

Robert Burck throws his hat in the ring, registered as a Republican in Ohio, for the 2012 presidential election.  He claims to be running as a part of the Tea Party movement.

What does this guy do on his off-time?  He stands in Times Square in his underwear, a pair of boots, and a cowboy hat, calling himself the Naked Cowboy.

EDIT: ...oh god, that headline.  I JUST GOT IT.  :glee:

Team Fortress 2 / Shadow Moses Beer League, a competitive format
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:59:01 AM »
Like all my 'great' ideas, I came up with this one in the shower this morning: a TF2 bragging rights league for Brontos and Talking Time.
A 6v6 format similar to other comp leagues such as the ETF2L.

Brainstorming came up with a regular season round robin format, where every team will play each other at some point.  The standings will determine seeding for the final tournament.

The regular season will also take statistics for each player and, after the tournament finals, the six top-scoring individuals from each forum will play in an All-Star game.

What do you guys think?

As sort of a sequel to Brickroad's abortive attempt at a solo-Thief run of FF1 over on Talking Time, I decided to do a solo-Thief run of the Dawn of Souls FF1...Twittering the whole thing.

Here's the thread.

Here's the Twitter feed.

Gaming Discussion / Secret of Mana. CRAP/NOT CRAP?

While the series itself has grown from nice 'n simple to convoluted and dumb, is Secret of Mana still an alright game?  Try to toss off the rose tinted glasses.

Burrito's post in teg's thread got me thinking.

SoM's buggy.  That cannot be denied.

Real Life / Renn-Faires

I'm sitting on a forum full of gigantic nerds.  I'm sure that at least one of you has gone to a Renaissance Faire at one point in your lives.

I just got back from Scarborough Faire, a rather large one in Waxahachie, TX, south of Dallas/Fort Worth.  Spoke with a gentleman who had flown in from Wisconsin in full costume, goofy hats and all.  Their reason?  Didn't want to mess them up in luggage.

Didn't get much outside of a neat hat, which I intend to photograph myself in at some point.
