High-Context Discourse / Re: Simple Machines Forum

I saw 'infinite scrolling' as the first point on the Discourse sell sheet and noped out of there. Let's not make things harder to navigate, okay?
Er, how so?

Well, they claim you can keep your place, but apparently that doesn't apply to casual browsing because I went into their huge test thread, scrolled down, backed out, then clicked again. Back to the beginning with most of the posts unloaded. I should hope the problems with browsing the forum should become obvious, then? (tip: I can jump anywhere I want with minimal loading in a paged thread. Can't do that with infinite scroll.)

Plus, what's full loading time like for big threads? Even if we go to a smaller thread model, we'll still have megathreads like the OH schedule thread. Imagine having to load two or three years of schedules just to find out what's playing this Saturday.

Basically I just hate infinite scroll and consider it the worst thing that ever happened to the internet and would like to avoid it as much as possible.

The package from my family arrived!

Inside was:

Homemade chocolates! (almonds and marshmallows)
More homemade chocolates! (box of creams, truffles, et cetera)
Satsumas from the tree out back!
Homemade pomegranate jelly!
A homemade pot holder!
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, rescued from my old room! - CORRECTION: Portrait of Ruin is missing from the game case. No idea where it could be. I did get Circle of the Moon and FFIV Advance as a bonus. How useful now Idon't have anything that can play GBA games.
A knife!
A knife sharpener!
A family calendar!

Aww, it's great. I need to get some bread so I can put this pomegranate jelly on something.

Further updates when my Dirty Santa package gets here!

Accidentally including something extra because you forgot where the hell it was is the truest expression of the Dirty Santa spirit I can think of.

I dreamed I missed the train I was going to take because I couldn't get my clothes on right until it was too late to get to the station.

I then missed the train in real life because I took the wrong bus to get to the station and couldn't get back until it was too late.

(I got where I was going eventually)

I'm with Ted except that I've always felt safe at PAX already, so....whatever. Just one more thing to completely ignore.

FISSION MAILED

And as a note to my Dirty Santa, I won't be around Dec 19th-Jan 1st. I have a hold on my mail so it's all right to send it, just make sure whatever you send can stand up to sitting around in a post office for a couple weeks.

Exactly what it says on the tin. Me, BEAT, fanboy_master, Smiler, Romo, and patito all sit on Skype and yell at each other while watching me stream LoI. It breaks in the middle because I paused the recording to look something up, then forgot to instantly restart it when I fixed the thing. Whatever!

MarsDragon plays LoI with some other assholes part 1/1

part 1/2

I'm going to try to do an area every Saturday night except I'm going on vacation in a week and will be taking the 21st and 28th off. And I reserve the right to just randomly stop recording and pick it up next week at any time, since I remember some of the areas getting fucking huge.

The orange part of the peel isn't very good, but I like to just barely scrape that off and eat the pith with a tiny bit of...orange zest or whatever you call it in there before eating the actual orange. It's good! I swear!

And Classic you should always wash fruit before you eat it. You don't know where it's been.

I was either playing as or actually was Solid Snake (it randomly changed between third-person and first-person perspective a lot), and I was trying to infiltrate a meeting on some military base to learn about a new kind of Metal Gear. This involved going up and down elevators constantly, hiding in cardboard boxes (and instantly getting caught) and forgetting I had the optic cameo. Eventually I got to the right floor with the optic cameo on, when I found a pair of female Cyborg Ninjas and decided to try to take them out before they were a boss fight later. Equip machine gun, fire fire fire, but that just got their attention. Boss fight!

They didn't have much in the way of actual moves, they were just impossible to kill. One of them kept going on about how pairs of sisters were different from pairs of brothers and then tried to throw her sister at me...only to fail because the other Cyborg Ninja had been placed on a different training program that made her gain weight. Thus, too heavy to be an effective throwing weapon. I snuck away while they were arguing with the project head about training.

I made it to the meeting, which took place in an elementary school classroom, complete with balloons and ribbons hanging from the ceiling. Everyone was filing in and trying to get food, including me. This was the part where I had to be really careful, because disturbing the balloons or ribbons in any way would make people notice the invisible man running around. I got boxed in by people trying to get to their chairs a lot.

Finally, we were ready and the presentation was about to begin! As soon as the picture of the new Metal Gear came up everyone called it ugly and "too brown". But that wasn't the real Metal Gear, that was a giant whistle shaped like a Metal Gear! See, they'd blow on the whistle, convince everyone an attack was coming, and then do...something when everyone went to their shelters. This was in some alternate future where the US had gotten nuclear bombed during the Cold War, and my dream ended with a woman talking about what it was like the day the bomb fell.

Besides the part where I kept not being able to equip things in elevators, I'd probably play a game like this.
