Quote from: Huffington Post
Indeed, in the affidavit, Blagojevich called Obama a "motherfucker" for wanting him to appoint an official that the governor either did not like or wouldn't receive money from. Local news reports, meanwhile, suggest that it was Obama chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel who blew the whistle on the governor.

Patrick Fitzgerald is the prosecutor? Fitzmas now holds yet another meaning.

Reading the news stories about this Blagojevich guy makes him seem cartoonishly evil.  Like during the phone conversations he was twirling his mustache and saying "nyah" a lot.

Yeah, that's the thing, he was so perversely blatant about the whole thing that you couldn't not arrest him.  Had he just shut up for five minutes, trust me, justice would have found a way not to be served.

Surprise!  People have suspected him of fraud for YEARS.

EDIT: Jonathan Schwarz reiterates his rule of thumb:

Quote
There's a rule of thumb for American politics that will never steer you wrong: if the Washington press corps worships a political figure and squeaks for decades on end about how he's a Brave Man of Honor and Wisdom, that political figure is one of the most dangerous lying scumbags on earth.

Nicely put.  Has a certain Hunter S Thompson vibe to it.

Great rule.  But it would go even better with a side dish of people it applied to.

Let's see... Bush, Reagan, Rove...
Yeah, I suck at remembering politicians.

If someone would be so kind as to make a better list it would be very much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure we don't have to keep an eye on him as a guy who the press constantly praises and deifies.

Oh hey, Madoff reminded me of this little Ponzi gem.

Some of the stuff that website is described as doing (most of the "but wait there's MORE!" below the image) are out and out hilarious.

Bloomberg:

Quote
Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox said the agency failed to act for almost a decade on “credible and specific allegations” of wrongdoing by Bernard Madoff, who authorities say bilked investors of as much as $50 billion.

Allegations dating back until at least 1999 “were repeatedly brought to the attention of SEC staff, but were never recommended to the commission for action,” Cox, 56, said in a statement yesterday. He announced an internal probe to review the “deeply troubling” revelations.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED to find that gambling is going on in here!

So what were the SEC employees doing instead of investigating Madoff?

Why, looking at porn and running side businesses, of course.

Businesses and porn? They got the short end of the stick; the guys at the Interior Department's Mineral Management Service got free cash and hookers, which is in pretty much every way better than a side business and some jpgs.
