Wired's Clarke Elegy quotes a handful of sci-fi authors, including professional douchebag Harlan Ellison, who starts off with a tangent about how much he hates the expression "sci-fi".  (Which is fair, because Clarke was hardly immune to tangents himself.  Did anybody read 3001?  Remember the circumcision tangent, or the bit about how people who write viruses are the scum of the Earth?)  Best part:

Quote
Arthur really did not like stupid people, but he would always talk to them as if they were Nobel laureates. I asked him where he got the patience, and he would answer that it's not nice to kick cripples.

He who pulls the gun out of Charleton Heston's dead hands shall be the next president of the NRA.

But if the gun breaks, will they have to get another one from the Rambo of the Lake?

Ollie Johnston, last of the Nine Old Men.

Quote
Johnston worked as an assistant animator on "Snow White," became an animation supervisor on "Fantasia" and "Bambi" and animator on "Pinocchio."

He was especially proud of his work on "Bambi" and its classic scenes, including one depicting the heartbreaking death of Bambi's mother at the hands of a hunter. That scene has brought tears to the eyes of generations of young and old viewers.

"The mother's death showed how convincing we could be at presenting really strong emotion," he remarked in 1999.

Johnston's other credits included "Cinderella," "Alice in Wonderland," "Peter Pan" "Lady and the Tramp," "Sleeping Beauty," "101 Dalmatians," "Mary Poppins," "The Jungle Book," "The Aristocats," "Robin Hood" and "The Rescuers."

It's time...leaving the Internet forever. It was fun hanging out with you guys.
Keep a watch out for news regarding the West Coast, boats, and explosives. That'll be me.
Hi NSA.

Well, in the case of shutting the fuck up, he did delete nearly all of his messages.

Surprised Sydney Pollack's passing hasn't been brought up. Here is a terribly written, but informational piece on him.

And actually writing about it, I find that I don't wish to write or speak on it any further. This one isn't going down smooth for me.

Another one from the "I didn't know he was still around" file: Harvey Korman.

"Land: see 'snatch'."

(Moved thread to Real World, which I assume Kazz intended to do since he put "obits" in the board description.)
