SUDDENLY I BURST INTO THE ROOM!
« Reply #80 on: January 16, 2009, 07:55:42 PM »

I like the sound of Armored Bore, but even that's pretty nerdy. Seems more like Angryoptimist's thing, anyway.

ARE YOU CALLING ME A NERD?!?!?!  i guess it's true

I haven't been that much into Armored Core lately.  Still haven't finished 4, even!  The last time I seriously played something in the series was a play-through of the original a while ago (without PLUS).  Most of my game time these days is fooling around in sandbox games and cursing the (apparently hard-coded) 128,000 brick limit in retail Blockland.
"Angryoptimist" was a 'dissatisfaction with present, optimism for the future' kind of thing.  Don't laugh, I came up with it 10 years ago.
I got my name from Kazz's con at his place however many years ago that was.  When Doom met me, he was making jokes about calling me Lady Duke because der, Kazz was the Grand Duke of the Duchy of Kazzia.  So I told him that if I ever joined pyoko, that'd be my handle.  And then it was.  The end.

I was about to post "the word is duchess!", but yeah, Lady Duke sounds much cooler.

Right before high school started, I needed a new moniker. I picked Nekobasu because I had just seen My Neighbor Totoro and really identified with the true star of the show. The name served me well for many years, even when it became apparent that I was becoming less like cats or buses with every year that passed. Also, every time that someone tried to shorten the name, it became confusing. There are far too many neko out there.

When the shift to WFE rent the earth, I took the chance to use my real name. Now if I ever need to argue with John Byrne, I'm ready.

My internet names were many, once upon a time.  Back when I trolled people's BBS chatrooms (I was 11 or so), I called myself "Beaver," because one of my brothers convinced me that they were hilarious (although I realize now that he was just trying to get me to repeat a synonym for "vagina").

So later I read Shlonglor's (now he is GFrazier) website and it was great and I played WarCraft II and was terrible at it but anyway through that website I found Blizzard's StarCraft Suggestion Forums and a story-writing group called "CWAL" and they were really funny so I just sort of interjected myself into their community, calling myself The Infamous Beaver, and writing truly terrible stories.  Other people abbreviated it to "TiB" but I never did, instead preferring my annoyingly long nick.

One day, I wrote The Infamous Beaver's origin story, about a military company of chainsaw-wielding beavers waddling around destroying stuff, and in it my character's CO addressed him as "Lt. Kazz."  I didn't think too much about the name at the time, thinking it was just a cool combination of K's and Z's (the two most badass letters in the Roman alphabet), but after the story other people in CWAL started addressing me as "Kazz" instead of "TiB" (so strong was our community's connection to its self-insert characters).  It annoyed me a bit, because I liked posting as The Infamous Beaver, but soon I just started posting as Kazz instead.

The surname that accompanies Kazz (on my AIM name, for instance) is "Tawdal," which, when asked, I often claimed was just a silly word with no real origin (because I was foolish enough to have "Tawdal" sown onto my backpack for high school and I didn't care to describe what an enormous dork I was).  In truth (if I remember any of this correctly), near the end of my tenure with CWAL, I joined a Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri forum and started writing fiction for them as well.  This wasn't in the script-format of my CWAL stories, but actual prose, and I think it was at least a little better.  It centered around a sly young man who wore a black T-shirt and black pants (which is really a hideous style) and called himself The Anonymous World Domination Association Leader.  I don't recall much about the WDA except that Tawdal apparently commanded a tremendous wealth of resources, because he was always flying around on black starships loaded with black tanks and black-uniformed soldiers obeying his every whim, while he walked around being an overconfident smarmy cockbag.

I adopted this smarmy cockbag persona myself, on both the SMAC and CWAL forums, because I had this strange idea that that is how awesome people act.  Around this time, I found Sharkey's website.

I actually don't remember my original delvings into the web, but I went with "Raiyen" for it. I recall hearing from one of my dumb friends that "rayen" was a Norse word for demon and I thought it was totally rad. I now doubt the veracity of the claim since both I and my friend were pretty retarded at the age of 12, but I do still think that the added "I" makes Raiyen pretty alright. I still use it as an alternate moniker. I also believe it's what started my love of unusual letter combination in personal screen names, but that didn't really come until later on.

Next, I found the the Bob And George community. And I was about 14 and thought that sprite comics were totally cool and awesome and a way for me to make something neat and cool and funny even though I was completely unartistically gifted. I of course was terribly, horribly wrong, but I can forgive myself on the account of being 14. What I can't forgive myself is making my personal character "Six." Specifically, my idea was that Zero was a prototype, and his name was his version number. Six was version 6.3109. He was also yellow, had two additional spikes on his helmet fins, and was retooled in many different ways, but it was still a slight retool in the end. I actually had it all statted out and ended up being one of the slightly more recognizable fan characters in that community, despite how horrible it is.

Defenestration was an attempt to distance myself from the 14 year old idiot I was. And really, it's a pretty awesome word. I'm still unable to believe there is an actual verb dedicated to the act of throwing someone out a window. And I learned it from an actual dictionary, not the one comic character that carries a window with him and shoves badguys through it.

But... I ended up making and keeping a LOT of friends from that community, so the name "Six" follows me still. I'm actually hearing "Six" more than my actual name amoung people that I hang out with in real life too, which is confusing because I know one of them from BnG. I'm contemplating just giving in and changing my forum name here to Six. It's easier to type, and after a bit of introspection I've come to identify with it personally.

If you call yourself Six then you're going to remind me of BSG.

I've not followed BSG at all, though I intend to at some point in the future. And I actually think I am going to switch, but it will be when I can be bothered to.
