Zaratustra Productions' FEVER
« on: January 17, 2008, 03:37:42 PM »

You can help with zara's new unnamed project by answering the questions below.

You're shipwrecked in a desert island with several other people.

1) What would you like to have brought with you?
2) What would you prefer to find in the island?
3) What actions could you take in the island as to improve your situation while awaiting rescue?
4) If you were put in charge of the group, what would you do?

1) What would you like to have brought with you?

Grappling hook!

2) What would you prefer to find in the island?

Skateboard!

3) What actions could you take in the island as to improve your situation while awaiting rescue?

Induce volcanic eruption via interrupting ritual sacrifice. That'll get some offshore attention! Maybe even before our molten graves are fully hardened.

4) If you were put in charge of the group, what would you do?

Back up the database.

The open-endedness of these questions leave infinite room for abuse.  For example:

- A Cessna kit with clear instructions, tools, a year's supply of nonperishables, and enough fuel to make it back to civilization.  Also a ton of clothing and kits for cookiing and washing.
- A wide assortment of edible fruits, vegetables, and animals that are easy to hunt and prepare.  And fresh water.  And a tribe of amazons who revere me as a god.
- Ensure that I be put in charge of the group.
- Change my name to Napoleon, stop doing any real work, eat unlimited portions of all the food, and spend all my time with the amazons.  Also when the plane gets built, I fucking ain't getting on it.

I assume this is the stereotypical uncharted island in the south Pacific, right? Palm trees, abundant sunlight, and a reliable but inconvenient source of fresh water, with very little of the boat remaining in usable condition?

1) A transmitter/receiver that can reach civilization or at least passing boats beyond visual range. Failing that, penicillin.
2) A large, watertight container. Wood that things can be built out of. A cave or two.
3) Always look for a way to make the tasks of day-to-day survival quicker and easier, and occupy ourselves with building them.
4) Prioritize and delegate. Calmly decide on what our most urgent needs are - fresh water, food, shelter, and the like - and set people to work on locating sources of each and constructing tools to ease their collection. Always keep people occupied with a task and/or focused on a shared goal so they do not have the energy for pointless infighting. Once we have something sustainable, get everyone into the habit of performing the tasks at which they're most effective, so that a leader is no longer needed to coordinate our efforts.

1) What would you like to have brought with you?
clean water, non-perishable foods, blankets, lighter with extra lighter fluid :D

2) What would you prefer to find in the island?
fruits, good place for shelter, a stream, a place to fish without endangering my life, kindling

3) What actions could you take in the island as to improve your situation while awaiting rescue?
building a nice big fire (it keeps bugs away, keeps it less dark at night, rescue device), building a lean-to/shelter, map out the island so I know where the hell I am on the island

4) If you were put in charge of the group, what would you do?
Make them build the lean-to and gut fish :D  I'd make sure the fire was always going and help to keep up morale.  I dunno.  I'd prolly be a shitty leader, and I'd whine.

1) Peanut butter sandwiches on wheat bread, water, a well-behaved dog.
2) Tokyo. Ok, I know it's a desert. Maybe a secret underground Tokyo? And bananas, since they go well with peanut butter sandwiches.
3) Write plays and put them on for the dog, who would sit-stay and wag his tail.
4) Hmm, distribute labor to accomplish survival things in case there weren't a Tokyo.

An electric generator, a laptop, and a cellphone.

Hopefully she's in the mood for some "head hunting" -- if 'ya know what I mean.....

3) What actions could you take in the island as to improve your situation while awaiting rescue?

I'd bang the aforementioned chick until rescue comes.

4) If you were put in charge of the group, what would you do?

Put someone more responsible in charge.

A whole island with the current river/lake algorithm.

Water tends to pile up in places a lot.

It's more or less what it does already, except it picks starting river points at random, because simulating rain is a bit complicated.

Maybe I'll have less rivers. I'll see.
