I liked Gyo, but it wasn't scary at all. It had the worst level of explanation it could possibly have, however. If it explained it a little more or less it would've been fine, [spoiler]but the fact that it was still sort of a mystery yet every last thing could be explained via "the gas had a will of its own"[/spoiler] kinda left it feeling cheesy to me. Horror just doesn't work for me if there's no sense of hope at all. But all that was outweighed by THE AWESOMENESS OF THE LANDSHARK.

More along the lines of the central villain, the secondary damsel in distress, the main 'hero', and the jacktards that just popped up in the last few panels.

Oddly enough, the Wiki gives the fate of the 'secondary damsel in distress', and the guys at the end are just there to show you where the events are going. Things were wrapped up pretty neatly, really.

"Humanity is overrun, we will try to fight back." is about as far away from neat as possible.

The 'ending' of the book is like an opening to an 8-bit era game, complete with transfigured friend, damsel in distress, and villain plucking her into the sky.

Seven levels of post-apocalyptic platforming, and critter pounding await.

It was the same ending as Children of Men. But the story wasn't really about humanity being overrun as a whole, but about Tadashi in the middle of it all. There's really nowhere to go from the ending unless you're wanting a series about humanity fighting back against the leg monsters, which would ruin the personal journey of Tadashi.
