With Battle angel Alita getting increasingly weird/awesome

(and the next english deadtree volume coming out A YEAR AND A HALF AFTER THE PREVIOUS ONE )
Plus the fact that all of the other manga i'm reading is scanned very slowly (Pluto,Vinland saga,Deadman wonderland, Moyashimon, Sayonara zetsubo sensei and others)

i need something else to read.

share your thoughts.

I was never quite clear on what was up with Alita. Is Last Order still going on?

I recommend finding scanlations of Monster. That was a kickass read. StopTazmo's got it.

Do any of you know of a japanese site that would have scans of old manga or where I could buy really old manga from?

I'm asking because I am looking to get the complete collection of Kaoru Shintani's Area 88 series.

I currently have up to issue forty-something of the viz/eclipse English translated versions that I bought off of ebay a while back but I would like to get the entire series. I think that after the comics I have, Viz or whoever started putting Area 88 into a combined book with some other mangas for a while, but I don't think they did that for very long and probably didn't bother translating the whole series like this. searching on the web in english reveals only sites that sell or have have scans of the comics that I already have. The Japanese Internets are strange and too Japanese for me to actually investigate.

Even if all I could get are the untranslated japanese versions of the rest of the series, I'd be happy. I just wanna see if they ever take out the land carrier

Well, someone did post rapidshares of the first 2 volumes in english on 4chan a while back, but nothing else has come up.

of course Viz never FINISHED it to begin with, so you are generally shit out of luck.

then there's my usual gripe with scanlators/fansubbers with their "HURF DURF CANT TRANSLATE ANYTHING OLD" crap.

Well, that's the thing, I don't expect to find anything much past the point of my last book in english. I just want the books though, in whatever language or form I can get.

Precisely. It's a safe assumption that the series did actually come to a real conclusion at some point, at least in Japanese.

Seriously, dude: I pre-ordered the newest Yotsuba&! way back in February, expecting to get it in April. The current shipping estimate I have from Amazon.com is anywhere from May 1st to June 2nd.

Unlikely. Junji Ito's works don't tend to stretch on for very long in any capacity. I think Tomie is his longest, and it's pretty much all self contained stories.

I've always enjoyed whenever panels from the shark attack one have been posted on places like 4chan out of context and/or with the dialog rewritten, but anyone who honestly enjoys body deformation horror has problems.

Tomie (I've owned both volumes for a few years now) is the North American compilation of his short stories which were published separately in Japan, many written before he even became a professional author. Uzumaki is his longest work, spanning three volumes, and while technically comprised of short stories, they are connected and given a proper ending. With Gyo, we see a clear attempt at straight narrative for once, only to end up a few chapters short. Whether it be his decision or the editors, dangling plot threads and the fates of characters remain unresolved.
