Notch said that persistent inventories will be in by tomorrow. For now /iron and /wood seem to give you stuff. I think I am going to spawn myself a ton of TNT and make the landscape beautiful. I also found out that if I log in to the server using my local IP I don't get the lag.

Saw some elaborate construction on a Minecraft server. It seems they maintain it by building a spawn jail out of unbreakable admin bricks. The jail evidently failed, since I was able to get out, and elsewhere in the map someone had smashed up a Megaman.

I will set it up tomorrow. I won't be around, but I'll have it running. Hopefully before I go out for the day multiplayer will be updated.

Server is up at 75.11.18.138:25565.

PERSISTENT INVENTORY!

This is by no means a permanent solution, but here it is - client-side persistent inventory!

If you use this JAR file to open Minecraft, it will save your inventory every few seconds. If you quit and rejoin, your inventory will still be there!

This does not fix chests, furnaces, or anything like that. It only stores your character's inventory. Crafting slots are also discarded on disconnect.

JRE 5 (Mac):

Use this to save your inventory in multiplayer.

Well, without furnaces to make iron it's still kinda worthless.

I've taken to planting down all my stuff somewhere before leaving. Non-plantable objects aren't a big deal. Since furnaces are broken, there's no way to make iron and no use for coal other than torches, which can be placed.

If furnaces are broken, how did I see glass on the server?

Spawning it in through the server client.

Tomorrow I am going to test running the server on my spare computer. It isn't as powerful as my main computer, if I barely maxed my computer running both the server and the game, the weaker computer should hopefully be able to run the server with around 4 people on it just fine as long as the 4 people don't run in opposite directions forever.

Edit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/123768/map5-obliqueangle-day.png Map of the server so far. I have no clue how someone got that far out, especially since the map didn't even fully generate the path to it.

It may have happened when Dogstar got lost. I was having some glitchy respawns too.

Yeah, that's definitely the area I was in, trying to find the spawn. It was actually pretty cool. In any case, hey, I can see my farm from here. And I dunno how I got the persister to work, it was just working. *shrug* And Detonator, Smiler spawned me a bunch of glass so I could make my farm. It's cool, ain't it?

I sailed out for a bit and found a lava flow from a mountainside. I think it's that orange splotch at the right of the map. I wonder if we can channel it toward the settlement for epic lulz.

The minecart in the bay tunnel is still glitching when I hit it. It's too bad minecarts and furnaces don't work in multiplayer.

There is a mod that will make furnaces work. I am working out the best way to install it now, since it uses the same files as the current mod on the server. It also adds some carebear mods that make tnt and flint do nothing, so I am looking for an option without those. I also will be fixing the minecart with lava the next time I log in.

Oh my god, I leapt off my retardo ziggurat, and I hit the ground so hard that it broke my internet connection. I wish I was kidding; I had to reboot.

Bad news everyone! The server load with one person almost exceeds the ram the computer I was running it on has. I have been noticing that it's been taking a long time for the level to load, and if you move too far away from spawn and then come back, you can see through the world. Lately when I have been building my fort I've been having bad lag when placing a lot of blocks or clearing them out.

If anyone else wants to host the server, I can give you a nice package to download with instructions on how to start it with the mods on. I might also add the fixed furnaces mod on as well.
