I have mixed feelings about all the animated stuff, honestly. Obviously it's impressive, but it's impressive in the same way a kid might get his book report hardbound. Congratulations on trolling for an A regardless of how well you did the actual assignment.

That said, if you think of it as just a big smiling dinosaur with a logo over it, it's a pretty good flag. Of course you only get that image for a split second before it's fucked up by a bunch of birds and a screenwipe. Bleh.

ok last one

The very first one was a JPEG, and as everyone knows JPEGs posted here gain artifacts. The second one: The spacing was all bad. I made it in two minutes. The third one has horrible typography; the kerning between the letters was all wrong, so I fixed it up in this one with a little magic. I used MSPaint for all of these. If I was at school I could have 'shopped something awesome, but ce'st la vie.

I'll let my team decide which is our official flag.

Doom told me that the reason for the deadlines was to keep from inconveniencing the judges with late entries. If you allow entries after the judges has started posting scores, it's gonna inconvenience them anyway, -1 score or not.

Awful colors, shitty effects, the text looks bad. I like jokes about mustaches and the full-contrast photograph is well-done but too small.

Bongo Bill: 1/10

MS-Painting over a Jolly Roger is not a flag. Tophats are not white. Monocles are typically not inserted into the eye socket.

Buge: 3/10

Ugly colors, the flies are dumb. I like the running guy but the shield is gross. Unreadable text.

Yyler: 4/10

I don't even understand it. Using clipart is lame. Also, that's not a flag, it's a coat of arms. There's a DIFFERENCE.

Newbie: 1/10

Hideous. Copy-pasted paint splotches with some rectangles around them. Clearly took one minute to make.

Niku: 10/10

Thematic, clever, enjoy the Youtube-themed bijdang in the corners. The video puts you over the top. A labor of love that took obvious effort.

And the late entries (-1 included)

I like the winking skull, and the fact that the flag is a pennant. The rest is crap.

Kabbage: 9/10

Phenomenal work. A loving homage to the great animated flags of yore (Flying Baby Rapers, etc). Dinosaurs and Advance Wars are both awesome.

I don't know what I'm looking at, but I fear that if I find out it would horrify me. This either took a lot of effort or was cropped from something else, I can't tell. Either way, it's not a flag, and it's ugly besides.

My original intent was to just disqualify and ignore late entries, thus ensuring that the Judges aren't bothered one way or the other. I try to be nice and the issue keeps coming up. But hey, that's one of the reasons. Forcing an entire community of procrastinators to wake up is another. Letting people know the deadlines are important is another. Making it clear that I don't play favorites is another.

Cutting off a dozen future "DOOM BE A PAL" conversations is probably the best.

It's done. The flag contest is over. Lesson learned. Be punctual.
