LAYOUTThere will be five blocks of songs for you to attempt to guess the details of. These details are:
[Artist OR Game used] - [Song name OR where song was used in game]Both fields need to be filled out for complete credit, and each correct answer is worth 1 point. If a song has different titles across regions, any title works. If a song has multiple artists, any artist works.
EXCEPTION: Super Hard answers allow for partial credit: A correct artist/game used in Super Hard is worth a point, and a correct song name/where used is worth another point. Correctly answering an ENTIRE super hard song awards a bonus point.
Last year, and the year before, I ran with three blocks: Normal Mode, Hard Mode (remixes), and Super Hard Mode (Obscure). Sadly, those two years burned up all good remixes, so I am dropping that block, but attempting something a bit different. The five blocks this year are:
OLD SCHOOL: When Michael Jackson was known for his songs. (NES, Grey Brick Game Boy, Master System, Game Gear)
GOLDEN AGE: SEGA DOES WHAT NINTENDONT: (SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive, TurboGrafix-16, GBC, PC)
NEW CONTENDERS: The guys who make the walkman are making a GAME SYSTEM?! (PSX, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, GBA, PC)
MODERN TIMES: MOTION CONTROLS! (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, PC)
SUPER HARD:
(Everything)
Teams will have two hours and five minutes to complete all five blocks. Songs will be rared and up for download ASAP, I hope to get it out a week before the contest. The RAR will be passworded.
When your team is ready to go, have one of you send me an IM or a PM on IRC. While I do like to sit in an IRC channel and watch your team go at it, and be there to answer difficult questions, my observation is not required. The timer starts the instant I give you the password, which is what the five minutes is for (Since unraring is rarely instant), so be prepared.
With the exception of Super Hard, any game whose song is in the blocks will have had a domestic release. Games whose release time in the US is under a later block than when it was released in Japan will have their Japan block used. (To simplify: Final Fantasy 5 was released for the SNES, but we did not get it until FFAnthology on the PSX. Any FF5 songs would be found under Golden Age)
RULESNO AUDIO ANALYZING PROGRAMS OR WEB SERVICES. Someone last year used one of these and it ruins the whole spirit of the competition. Anyone caught using one of these will be instantly disqualified.
GOOGLEING IS ALLOWED. Sometimes songs have lyrics, and if you can make enough sense to google them, that is available.
WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP, HAVE ONE TEAM MEMBER SEND ME YOUR ANSWER SHEETS. Once that time is up, and your answer sheet is in, that's it. Your guess is locked in.
An answer key will be posted at the end.
Nations, sign up in here! Post questions if you have them!
READY, GO.
