How about the fact that google is a SEARCH ENGINE while wikipedia is an ENCYCLOPEDIA.  Sure, they're commonly used for similar purposes, but, get this: They're fundamentally different in both purpose and methodology!!!

Look, all I'm saying is that in situations where I'd normally use Google to find out what something is, I now use wikipedia to much greater effect.  I was being facetious in implying it is wrong or outdated to use google mainly, I was just making a witty comment regarding the increased populatity and size of Wikipedia to explain eveything.

Jesus Christ, guys, he said "witty" when he should have said "sarcastic".  Why does this merit so much discussion, exactly?  I mean, yeah, it was a ridiculous parallel to try to draw, since Google stopped being "a remarkable, useful, free resource" and started being "an unstoppable financial juggernaut" years ago, but does such a pointless oversight really deserve this much analysis?

Det, of course I knew you were cracking a joke and are smart enough to know the difference between a search engine and a wiki.  I just thought it was an unfunny joke based on a flawed premise and, if you want me to dissect it further, the flawed assumption that "x is the new y" = INSTANT COMEDY.

...Now see, the reason I didn't just say that in the first place is that to my ears it sounds a lot worse than the vague choice of words I DID settle on.

Det's statement was a dumb joke.  Thad made a comment on it that could have been left alone and forgotten about.  Then Det vagged out and took offense and now we have the MOST RIDICULOUS SHITFIT IN FORUM HISTORY

I mean, fuck, I've gotten pissy at Thad more than anyone in the world, and now I at least  have a clue of when not to start a god damned fight.

Clearly Thad was disagreeing, but Det had to take up the mantle and defend Wikipedia's honor, to all of our detriments because now we have a full page of people being completely fucking retarded.

But I still defend my statement.  Looking past the failed humor, what I said is true for me at least.  In the context Thad was using, Google was being used to find information.  In my opinion, Wikipedia is a more effective way of finding such facts.  I'm not going to say people should use Wikipedia for gardening tips or finding the official Diet Coke website or HOT SEX, but in my experience, Wikipedia has replaced Google (and IMDB) about 90% of the time.

Oh yeah, and I am SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS  :MENDOZAAAAA:
