People calling me "Paco" when I lived 50 miles from the Mexican border had a special resonance.

One time, half-asleep, I was awoken by LD calling me Alex, and I angrily grumbled, "My name is Kazz," before rolling over.

Those of you that were at MAGFest this year: Was I insisting that you guys call me 'Adam' over 'McDohl' or some permutation of it?

It's kinda funny when I'm playing Team Fortress 2 on pub servers, and hearing all the mangling of the name.  "Tire McDohl" and so forth.

Upon reading this thread I'm reminded that Bruce Wayne refers to himself as Batman in his own thoughts.

I don't call myself Catloaf.  But after taking a few years of Japanese, I'm much more open to being called by my last name.  Although I still cringe every time people put to much stress on the last syllable, turning what is virtually a vowel-less sound "kuhn" into "koon" which in my opinion is the furthest sound possible from how it's normally pronounced--"kahn" is better, "kehn" is better, for fucks sakes "kohn" is better.

The only reason it gets to me is because of telemarketers.  Back when those actually called, every telemarketer ever would pronounce it like that*, signaling to me that it was time to hang up immediately and that I shouldn't of wasted all that effort traveling all the way across the house to the phone.

*EDIT: BUT (virtually) NO ONE ELSE EVER WOULD EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T KNOW MY FAMILY!!!  AS IF THE POSITION OF TELEMARKETER ALONE FORCED THE MISPRONUNCIATION AND IT COULDN'T BE OBTAINED OTHERWISE!!!

Only my family and a handful of teachers know me as my real name.
My friends go to both names, really.
But I know way more people as Lottel and I have way more friends as Lottel.
So, to more people, Lottel is a lot more real than I.

Take that as you will.

Or Labes.

you have to explain this, because the only way I can think of for a person to get this nickname is by having famously enormous labia.

A girl named Judith once announced that she wanted everyone to start using the word labes instead of labia because labia was the grossest word ever. So I did. And you'd be surprised how many opportunities there are to use the word labes once you're thinking about it.

Anyway, Token changed my name on his gtalk from Amber to Labes and others shortly followed suit.

I'm filling my water with volcanicity, and making it tasty for the labies.

I have, after playing diablo for hours, gone to get a snack and been unsure how to manipulate a knife with my mouse cursor in such a way as to make a sandwich.

well first off you will need your cube handy

I once tried to make a hamburger using a Horadric Cube.  I accidentally opened a portal to the Cow Level, so I guess it kinda worked.

Actually, there is one thing I do: I fully enunciate internet acronyms for use in real life.

So I'll say stuff like "EL-OH-EL" or "BEE-AR-BEE" out loud now and again.

EDIT: I suppose marrying a woman with a bigger MTG collection than me counts too.

I once growled at someone who said "ttfn". Is that a nerd moment, or a rabid dog moment?

Also, I imagine "lol" being pronounced like a laugh signal on an horn or whatever, you know, the kind where it plays as bert sighs sadly or a human person turns to the camera and shrugs with a "that's just too retarded for me" face.

I've also used the phrases "brb" and "pwned" non-ironically a total of five times, and I have regretted all but one.

Why, just tonight I was dealing the cards for a game with The Girlfriend. She groaned at her rummy hand, and I told her, "I assure you, Commander, the cards are sufficiently randomized." She responded, "Yeah, nobody shuffles like Data."

I don't know which is nerdier, that I made the reference or that she immediately knew what I was talking about. So it's kind of a Crowning Moment of Nerd for both of us.

Some of those Poker bits in TNG were some of my favorite scenes.  I know I've linked the Hawking/Newton/Data/Einstein game once before.  Then there's the final game in "All Good Things..."

I don't think nerd-to-nerd moments are as bad, since you're just trying to be funny.  My friends have made the same reference while playing poker.
