I got the gift of knowing my dad will be missing my sister's wedding this year, which is honestly a huge load off my mind.

He's also getting remarried which isssss a little odd because i am pretty sure he never had his previous marriage annulled? whatever.

also, my sister's fiancee gave me a huge external harddrive which is really marvelous.

I got my first Christmas without family due to the snowpocalypse and got nothing other than a bill for replacement PC parts.

I take that back, I did get a $200 card to a big and tall shop.

 :victory:: I got a nice homemade Deadpool Scarf from my semi-secret santa.
 :victory:: I got a book I picked out for myself. It's half memoir, half commentary about fantasy gaming and pen and paper rpgs.

 :oh:: Just about every other gift. The one year I actually asked for things because I've been unemployed since May and spent all my money on Christmas. And this is the only year that I didn't get ANY gift cards. Not. A. One. I got clothes. Hideous clothes. Uber-trendy black jeans with that weird little faux-fade on them, a army green hideous coat thing. Black socks and a long sleeve polo. And other ridiculous things of that sort.

Oh well. Everyone liked the gifts I gave them so that's good.

Too bad I just don't have any money/gift cards to go buy the games I've been lusting after.
Or all the comics I am behind on.

From family:
- Buncha DVDs: Fight Club, Shawn of the Dead, Pulp Fiction, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society
- Notes of a Dirty Old Man by Charles Bukowski, and Terry Goodkind's new book
- The Failblog book.  Torn on this one; on one hand, the term 'fail' is terrible.  On the other hand, funny pictures!
- The Flashbulb's Kirlian Selections album
- A sexy leatherbound journal from my uncle
- Hi-chews and Kasugai gummies

From Envy:
- Frikkin Yojimbo holy shit
- Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2
- Tokyo Zombie, which was absent from the picture as it was in my DVD drive at the time
- What I think is what they do for starter sets in M:tG now?  A pack of commons and uncommons, and basic lands for each colour.  Looks like 30 cards total for each pack, so you can probably pick any two colours and make a deck out of them.  It's a pretty cool idea!

From family:

* 20th Century Boys, volumes 2-4
* Masterpiece Comics
* Finch
* Small World
* A symbolic pig
* Giftcards to Target and iTunes. Money.

It's probably a sign of impending dementia that I would have preferred a tote bag full of black socks rather than the last item -- one of those sturdy bags that saves five cents at the grocery store.

From EvaKisu:

- A thoughtful holiday card
- Gumballs attached to a random Santa generator. He continues to leer at me, despite the result.
- A blue plastic bottletop that... goes on cans to keep the carbonation in? I'm guessing here.
- A leather-type iPod sleeve.
-  A big ol' stack of comics! (Highlights include G.I. Joe and the Transformers, several Valiant/Image titles -- including one with a foil cover, and a few titles too obscure for Wikipedia.)
- Chocolates, which were swiftly absconded by the parents' dog (who is chocolate-proof)

This has been a good Christmas. Thanks for adding to that. All that's left to do now is organize a few of the locals for some more one-shots.

:victory:: I got a book I picked out for myself. It's half memoir, half commentary about fantasy gaming and pen and paper rpgs.

Is it Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks? If so/not, how is it?

Vgame those are promotional  packs given out to new players. Not actually starter decks but just small things to build interest.

It IS. It's pretty good. I was expecting more commentary/the book to take a more scientific point of view instead of this man's conflict with his inner nerd and whether it is a healthy thing. I admit, I am only 1/3 the way through the book, but already I am learning somethings.

The whole point of the book  so far is "OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT! I'm in a committed relationship and turning 40 and I'm not sure I am a good enough person or have the mental wherewithal to be a father. I'm a nerd! Surely that can't be good, can it?" But I've checked through the book and it takes a different approach after he meets some old geek friends.

Hum hum, I did get something after all. My folks gave me back some Magic cards they stole from me and locked up when I was like 16 (HINT: THIS WAS A LOOOOONNNNNNNNG TIME AGO, the very newest cards in the pile are from Homelands).

So, uh... I guess that's not really a gift by the strictest definition, but the returned goods are worth roughly $500, give or take $200, and they might find one or two more stashes easily worth more than double that, so... no complaints!

PS2: Friends, the one with all the trivia.  I will lose this game SO HARD.
Midnight Club: Street Racing.  HARD KORE DRIFT POWER
Big Mutha Truckers 2.  A clear improvement on Big Mutha Truckas 1.
Gundam: Journey to Jaburo.  Because giant robots need love too.
Duel Masters!  It's time to s-s-s-something!

Great haul, Dogstar, and thanks a bunch!
