After this week I now realize how essential a feature it to mark whether I've beaten a game or not would be.

Beat Hazard

Holy shit I just got Survival Champion after this

The Black Mages - The Decisive Battle (FFVI)

followed immediately by this

VGM - Ys (Final Battle FC Ver. Arrange)

AAAAAAAAH

Then I blew up a boss that was hanging around after the end of the song and I guess it can still kill you while it's exploding.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing that'll explain getting hooked on it. I've said it about Audiosurf and I'll say it about this: these games have the best soundtrack in the world.

I knew this game had me at about 3:00 here:
Beat Hazard - Laguerro del Mundo
A quiet part starts and takes away my firepower, just as the boss warning appears. Uh-oh. The huge thing floats in slowly, almost serenely, all 2001 style. I have survive for a while until 3:48, where the music picks up again and gives me huge fuckoff lasers; I wipe the boss out in a few seconds.

Oh. My. God.

Of course now that I have some experience under my belt it's not a big deal, that was on Normal and I didn't know what I was doing. But at the time that felt pretty epic.

Now that the day sales are out of the way, here are my last minute suggestions:

Introversion complete pack: is $5 for four games, and I thought Darwinia was neat
THQ pack: Stupidly good value if you own none of the Dawn of War, Call of Honor or Red Faction games yet; contains Dawn of War II which has several multiplayer fans in the Brontoforumus and environs
X-Com pack: As a gift for your friend who doesn't have it already
id games pack: Unless re-playing the entire Doom and Quake series doesn't appeal to you
Mount & Blade Warband: Haven't played this yet, but is a good game assuming it's at least as good as the first Mount & Blade and you like hitting guys with swords from horseback
Civ4 complete pack: It's like Master of Orion but on land
Jagged Alliance 2 pack: I liked this when it first came out. Stush is a big fan, and says the combat is somewhat like X-Com but the interface and graphics are better

Things I didn't like:

Dawn of War II pack: It's a great game, I just wish I'd noticed that the THQ pack was only £6 more and contained twenty other games besides. (This happens every Steam sale)
Flotilla: Moving things in 3D space is hard :(

Honestly, I'd just use the category system they have now.  Just make a new category for games you've beaten and there you go.
Of course, I love making categories and rearranging them constantly, so it may just be me.

THQ Pack, M&B Warband get.

Messing around with Warband today, learned that "normal" means hard mode. That was good to know.

Haven't touched any of the other games yet. Eventually I'll end up talking to MAdMax and be happy I finally have DoW2, or find someone that wants to campaign with. Metro 2033 may get some play tonight.

Steam has trained me to give them money. I just found myself looking for deals out of habit. This might be how the Antichrist takes over.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I've spent over $100 on stuff I'll never, ever play just because it came in $5 chunks.

After buying at least three games that just plain don't work I'm probably gonna cool it with that shit.

I got Jagged Alliance 2, which is good so far, and Culpa Innata, which seems like a complete waste of money. That game is so heavy-handed and pretentious I had to stop playing before my pupils physically escaped through the top of my skull.

I at least got a full play-through of Bioshock 2 before the game became unplayably crashy on what I am assuming is the fucking Microsoft Live end of the deal. Always crashes at the main menu when it tries to pop in the "Continue" option for my last saved game.

So you know, I just youtubed the other endings I didn't get and tried to minimize the bitterness.

Ghostbusters, Broken Sword II + III, and Beat Hazard are now mine -- but I mainly decided to sublimate my desire to get games on Steam into getting non-Steam games I actually intend to play/have resale value when I'm done with them! That way my wallet is sufficiently emptied of cash and I have a much greater chance of getting a return (of entertainment value/cash from selling the physical copies I bought) from my investment. This was a nice change of pace, and I recommend it to anyone who's interested.

I'd list what I got instead, but I also satiated the desire to fill my hard drive by loading it with sentai-fetish porn -- and this is board is safe-for-work now, isn't it? :wakka:

I'm waiting to see how this week plays out, but I have a feeling I'm going to end up just getting the Big Stupid Deal pack, since it's basically 26 Games I'm Guilty of Pirating and One I Never Bought the Expansions For.

Because if there's one thing my 40% Beaten backlog needs right now, it's the entire history of PC gaming since 1993.
