Maybe it's Cyan trying his hand out at real trolling.

It could also be Cyan trying hard at not being a troll. I've been considering both since he started posting.

I don't really care about the politics, you really suck at discussions at general. You just suddenly talk about things vaguely related to the topic you are posting in, and most of the time I can't even decipher what you are saying. Like Thad said, you never fucking say anything.

The post in the prop 8 thread makes me think it's just some kind of bot. He talks a bit about the topic and then posts a totally unrelated link at the end.

This is kind of emblematic as to how we treat new users. We seem to have a very high bar for entry here.

There's a joke about people like me who run into the bar and clothesline ourselves on it but it escapes me.

He's one of those guys who takes a paragraph to say absolutely fucking nothing.

@Smiler: Not really too worried either way. Troll or no I don't mind.

The funny thing about political discussion is the notion that every opinion has to be an absolutist one(For or against). Nothing is that black and white. No opinion is without merit or criticism. Therefore, a person should try to see all sides of a debate and do their own research in order to understand and come up with an opinion for every argument. Time can also change a person's opinion along with real world events. Because of this, a moderate view is seemingly unpopular because everyone hates the person whose opinion they can't trust to be with their own at all times. Either that or they are absolutists by nature; a painfully bad habit of the human race. I am an absolutist about many things(after doing plenty of research), such as a small government is better than a large one. However I support gay rights. Simply assuming you can understand a person's stance on everything in a few sentences(much less judge them) is impractical and ludicrous.

This is the most serious welcome i've ever had. Yay?

(Hope i'm not coming off too strong here)

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that I am goddamned blitzed right now and still have not banned you for this stupid horseshit is all the evidence anyone should need, from now until the end of time, that I am not the bastard op I am made out to be.

That said: say something that isn't a bunch of meaningless vagary, or stick to blathering about video games.  If you keep posting annoying tripe I will ban the shit out of you.  You have been warned.

Oh I'd recommend against that.  I've taken Kayin's recent criticism of our crushing boringness here to heart lately and I think lowering the denominator just a tad might at least inject some dynamic into the proceedings.

If he spams, threatens to kill himself, or starts doing stupid shit with scripts though, then yeah, burn him to ash without further inquiry.

Which is one of the reasons why we have so few newcomers.

I think I think the loss of Sharkey's cult of personality could be another one.

That's bleakly comical when you consider the number of continues Cyan was given.

That wasn't addressed to you. It may have been in reference to your post, but it wasn't addressed to you.

Hang around and see what tomorrow may bring :imagination:

I don't even know how people find this forum anymore.  We're not attached to or linked from anywhere directly.

We're still linked from Sharkey's website but, well, apparently http://www.solidsharkey.com/ doesn't work anymore.

We're on our own, kids. The world doesn't know we exist.

Publish DN's webcomic. He promised us one a day; like good editors we need to hold him to this. At current quality and quantity output, we should have a winner of a webcomic inside of a month. I'm sorry, DN. I love you man, but its your JOB now. Don't slack off or I'll have to send my brother with the baseball bat to have a discussion about the future. The future of your knees.

EDIT: In a slightly more serious (although I do like DN's comic) note, Smiler is adding a link to the forums in ShMo's MoTD.

Help me get better as a poster.

That's the idea.  Negative feedback and plenty of warning.  I don't want to ban anybody, but every post you write seems to be calculated for maximum obnoxiousness.  Maybe you could work on that.
