Adventures in Slumberland
« on: May 20, 2008, 09:31:35 PM »

So, I'm in this mall. At night.

But the mall is actually a tower. It's a tower mall. A mall tower, if you will.

And these two midgets challenge me to four rounds of boxing.

And they're wearing The Thing / Ben Grimm costumes, claiming they're made of rock.

And I punch them so hard that blood starts pouring out from under their masks.

And then security takes me up to the top of the mall tower, past the floor with Old Timey Strongmen and the floor with Wheelchaired Basketball Players, marbled floors and exotic plants lining the staircases.

And the Dapper Manager of the mall tower is furious, furious that I murdered his prized midgets.

He slams down his shot glass upon his oak desk.

It shatters.

Then I awake.

...

Does it qualify as a nightmare if you turn out to be the monster?

I can say with distinct and unreserved certainty that it is.

Oh who hasn't dreamed that they were a monster?  Especially after reading tentacle rape porn.

I'm moving out of my old apartment, and having some kind of discussion with a friend of mine. I think it was about how much damage a mouse could cause.

Anyway, a train goes by in the distance and that's always been my trigger (self-taught over a long period of time) that I'm dreaming. I raise my hands in front of my face and they are shiny. I try to look at my arms but instead I start looking at the bushes and then my mind wanders and I'm losing it but then I suddenly snap back and realize this is a dream

Now, the trick is to stay just enough awake so I can control it without waking up too much so everything fades and I find myself laying in bed, breathing slowly. I start to rationalize what I should do, but logical thinking like that starts to lead me to waking, so I turn away from it and do what my first impulse decides:

Which is, of course, flight.

I run down the sidewalk, figuring I'll need a good amount of momentum to pull this off. A man with a shopping cart suddenly pulls out from the side ahead of me, but I jump over it, and soar.

Spinning, I gleefully rest with my back to the ground, watching the sky and clouds as I glide. They morph in strange patterns and I muse that they may represent my brain defragging or whatever it is brains do when they sleep. A hole opens in the sky and I cringe away from whatever is inside.

Flipping over, I see below the landscape of California, rice fields, hills, grass, green and brown and white. A road with cars. Distance blurs, one moment I am 100 feet, the next 10,000. I suddenly look forward to see a volcano erupting in front of me. I deftly dodge my way through the fire and rock.

I land on the other side of the volcano in a small village complete with cobblestones and wooden signs and lamps. The people look up at me in wonder.

"You can do this kind of shit in your own world when you're dreaming," I say.

"This isn't your world," says a small cowled man. Then he smiles.

I give him a long look. Finally I ask "Then whose world is it?"

Then I wake up.

Honestly, it's the best experience I've had in a while. Something about it energized me. The world felt fresh for most of today.

Once I fell in love in a dream and then I woke up and was pissed off all morning because the person in it didn't exist.

Inside a Deli & Restaurant which share the same building, are divided down the middle by a simple wall, and are connected by a small hallway in the back. Walking into the Restaurant, I'm told a movie theater / bar are just behind the building. Taking the back exit, a dingy gray alleyway with torn newspapers shifting about in the wind and graffiti'd concrete walls greet me. I enter the plain metal doorway opposite the Restaurant exit.

This is no theater, but instead a dim recording studio with a large projection screen and sleek wood paneled floors. A young boy under my wardship and I take a seat, as a group of college musicians slowly prepare to score something to whatever will be coming up onto the projection screen. At the moment, only pre-WWII era newsreels are running on it. We quickly grow bored of watching the amateur musicians setting up, and head back to the Deli, as the restaurant is closing for the evening.

A line has grown inside the Deli, and becoming anxious, I have my ward keep my place in line. Feeling a need to return to the recording studio, I do as such.

There isn't a soul inside, and the lights are out. A six foot tall 16-bit eyeball monster quickly makes its presence known, as I am warped into a Super Scope Six Sequence (!), in which the monster is dispatched, but more and more goopey abominations seep up from the cave floor. Yes, the wood paneling gave way to cold rock, and I am soon drained of power. Making a quick escape, the restaurant door is now locked, forcing me to run out onto the street.

A Maniac Mansion interface filters in, as I slowly walk across four screens, each packed with a new, colorful monster. They morph in from mail boxes and storefront windows, and all devour or decapitate bystanders as I trudge by. Running back into the Deli, I see the line has not moved. I rush over to my ward, as he speaks to me by means of an 8-bit dialog box:

Code: [Select]
"Quick. Get the firehose." he says.

Then I wake up.

Splatterhouse & Zombies Ate My Neighbors with Side-Scrolling and Super Scope Six, essentially.

Once I fell in love in a dream and then I woke up and was pissed off all morning because the person in it didn't exist.

Many of mine end in some epic DuckTales adventure in which I capture the Legendary Emerald Jewell of Diamond Stone, only to wake up with my arms stretched out as if I were still holding the damned meal ticket.

So I dreamt I was part of a clan of wolf-people except nobody showed any wolf-like traits at any time during the dream. I had a rather niche ability that I could walk through closed doors of any kind like they weren't there. Plus there was a wolf-folk girl telling me that we could not be together because the wolf-women's ways were warrior ways and the wolf-men's ways were secret-keeper ways or something.

Does anyone know a publisher? I think I can get a trilogy out of this.

Last night I dreamt that I was watching a new trailer for Peter Jackson's latest film.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Alien VS Predator.

Naturally, Ian McKellen reprised his role as Gandalf, wearing a black tank top and wielding a bowgun.

UPDATE:
It was so retarded I was compelled to make this:

There's something really wrong with me...

hit buttons, waggle joystick

I should probably note that the actual title of the movie in my dream was Alien versus Predator versus Narnia, which... has its own charm, I suppose.

Last night I dreamed Kazz and LD came over for a slice of my friend Nikky's apple pie. I carried around a tiny notebook full of insane Werewolf ramblings that I refused to show people, and for some reason I hadn't shaved or bathed in a month. I was living in my old apartment in San Diego.

At one point I walked in on LD telling Kazz that I was schizophrenic because I'm constantly singing to myself and talking about imaginary people. Suddenly Rosen walked in the door and explained that I always did stuff like this and it was all perfectly OK. I just stood there nodding and scribbling in the notebook.

I'm fairly sure this means I'm spending too much time here. Not that that bothers me. I'm also fairly sure this is stress related, but the good news is I GOT AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER FROM THE SCHOOL I WANT TO GO TO THIS MORNING so hopefully no more weird ass dreams (my life's already weird enough).

Zombie Apocalypse. Was one of four police officers at night still alive in a city overrun by zombies that not only ran, but also crawled out of walls and crevices. And drove jeeps. I tested their agility by climbing to the top of a jungle gym, but they all failed to make it anywhere close to my vicinity. Another trick was to not run away from them, but to also not stop dead in front of them, leaving them unable to recognize you as a tasty brain vessel.

Fast forward to daylight, wherein I'm walking down the halls of Catholic school, filled to the brim with heavenly schoolgirls, who are all asking when the concert I'm hosting starts. Then I sign a few forms in the main office with some other schoolgirls.

Then I wake up.

Actually, it was number 1,072.  Forgot to move a topic earlier.

... aaaanyway.

I had a dream that a huge bee with a glowing red chest made a BEELINE (get it) for my head and attacked my ear.

I woke up frantically slapping the side of my head.

I think all these achievement things (and soon trophies) are getting out of hand.  Last night I unlocked an asshole physicist achievement, for the application of asshole physics in the furtherance of science.  I'm not sure what kicking in some poor shlub's door had to do with science, but it did the trick.

Strangest dream I've had in a long time.
