From Talking Time's Say a Thing and a Guy Will Draw It thread, I give you "An Occurrance at Owl Bear Bridge":

Borderlands Spoilers:

While my friend and I were playing through the game, he pointed out that there are more bandits than actual citizens living on Pandora. I pointed out that there didn't have to be, we use New-U stations to revive every time we're killed, so we could just be fighting the same guys over and over.

But storyline deaths are permanent. You'd think T.K. Baja or any one of those Atlas commanders would have registered at a New-U station sometime.

but hey guys why not just use a phoenix down on aerith amirite

(Also, I never noticed before because usually I was playing the guy, but Moredecai's hood-and-goggles combination is kind of ridiculous-looking. He looks like a Truxican wrestler moonlighting as a dominatrix, man!)

And something I sketched out halfway through the first version of "Occurrance at Owl Bear Bridge", but could really apply to half the stuff in this thread:

(More Borderlands spoilers!)

But storyline deaths are permanent. You'd think T.K. Baja or any one of those Atlas commanders would have registered at a New-U station sometime.

I think I went off on this before, but, it all made sense to me once I noticed the brand on all those New-U Stations.  They're Hyperion-made.  Hyperion as in the company that basically led you by the nose straight to the Vault so you could off the Gene Worm and let them loot the place in another 200 years or so.  And there's a New-U Station right the fuck in front of the Vault door.

The Vault Hunters aren't super-special badasses.  Anybody could have killed the Gene Worm with infinite lives.  So the question is, why didn't they?  Because Hyperion wasn't going to let Atlas goons and raiders use their super-special immortality machines to do whatever the fuck they pleased, of course.  They needed to get some unallied, treasure-obsessed, easily-duped thugs to clear out all the other factions gathering around the door without stopping to figure out that the weird Sadako voice might just be moving them around like suckers.  Long story short, the PCs were handpicked, giving exclusive access to the magical respawn machines, set loose on the world, and in the end paid off with a pittance of cash so that they wouldn't start asking questions once the whole quest chain was done.

As for why there are so many bandits and relatively few normal NPCs: supposedly there are still bastions of civilization left on the planet, you just happen to be fucking around in Space Afghanistan.

I really like the idea that Hyperion did it intentionally.

[establishing shot, exterior of a large spacecraft]
Off-camera voice: "CL4P-TP, bring up the database of registered New-U users on Pandora."
Another voice: "Beep beep boop boop beep boop boop beep beep boop boop!"
First voice: "And do spare me the sound effects."

[second panel, ship interior. An office. A well-maintained Claptrap is working at a computer touchscreen]
Off-panel voice: "Delete all registered users except the following four:
Cashlin, Lilith.
(made-up name), Mordecai.
Roland, (made-up name).
Latrine, Brick."
Claptrap: "You got it... but, uh...."

[panel perspective change. The off-panel voice is revealed to be Mr. Blake]
Mr. Blake: "I believe it is an assumed name."
Claptrap: "He changed his name TO Latrine?"
Mr. Blake: "Perhaps it used to be 'Shithouse'."

Quote
when you're trying to draw an action, just insert a "the fuck" into it.

ie. you drew him "looking up"

but you wanted to draw him "looking the fuck up"

THIS I WILL TRY, ENJOY THESE REHASHES OF PREVIOUS WORK

She is catching THE FUCK out of that bullet.

He is paralyzing THE FUCK out of that other off-panel dude.

He is tripping THE FUCK out on green cherries.

I am nailing THE FUCK out of that Sableye with my Treeckoflail.

He is stumping THE FUCK out of that cigar and that other guy is registering THE FUCK out of his disapproval for this turn of events.

Brentai is regurgitating THE FUCK out of that d1000 pints of water.

Also, I think I've finally got my scanner settings the way I want them. All I had to do to work on these is Photoshop's Auto Contrast, then resize them.

Your feedback is not only appreciated, it is demanded.

I think that's basically the pinnacle of awesome comedy, or as is my favorite portmanteau of the two, awesomecomedy.

But... but you're kind of killing the joy of it by reminding us that you're actually going to be suffering.

It never ceases to amaze me how a picture can look color-corrected, black-line-art-on-white on one computer, then I come back the next day and find it all looks like utter shit and needs more work. It doesn't help that I get the scanner to work like I want it to, and the very next time I go to the scan lab IT has changed all the software in a system upgrade.

Anyway. Most panhandlers collect change in a disused coffee cup or something, but I just didn't feel like that was suitable for a culinary professional *snrk* like myself.

Starr bought me a $400 tablet for my birthday last Sunday. One of them Intuos fancy-pants.

Man, I really struggled to decide whether or not to tell her to take it back. I mean, it's wasted on me and that money could be far better spent elsewhere considering how broke-ass we are. In the end I kept it... she gave it in a spirit of hope and I can't bring myself to shit all over that.

Still I feel awful. Somewhere there's a kid who's REALLY GOOD who could actually make use of this thing. Fuck.

Yeah, Koipond's been trying that for a while too. It'll probably work as well for you as it does for him.

I couldn't even really say why I can't draw anymore. I can make guesses, some better than others, but I don't really know.
