Pretty sure the only one I've played is... 4? This was 5 or 6 years ago; I remember there was a different city design depending on your faction, and the hero was a unit in addition to the troops they were travelling with. I remember the maps being very busy, but in a good way.

HoMM was one of those games I missed due to the mental hospital. There's a thread buried somewhere in HCD or Real Life about crazy people. That should be resuscitated
