It is super jarring to go from Demon's Souls to Ratchet and Clank, luckily I've got a bunch of huge guns to distract me.

Apparently, my PS3 is broken.

It attempts to boot up. The green becomes yellow for about a second, then it just goes to a blinking red light. This is supposedly an "Overheating issue", but I find that hard to believe when the console is kept in an open area in a downstairs, generally cooler place, and not used for days at a time.

Remember not to use canned air unless you've got good air circulation.

The surface of the console looks dusty - but all of the vents, ports, and basically crucial areas are nearly as clean as the day I got it back from my first repair. Also: It's one of the original 60gb models, so there is no fan test.

Dust dives inside console cases with admirable alacrity.

It's likely you're going to have to pop that bitch open to fix whatever the problem is. If it's not dust maybe a heatsink got unseated or maybe something really bad has happened.

Probably dust, from what you're telling me.

Called support. PS3 Blinking red light = Xbox Red Ring in the fact that it cannot be fixed by troubleshooting. Agent told me $129 to get it repaired and covers shipping both ways. I've watched videos of people repairing it on youtube, and I don't know if I want to put in the effort to fix it that way to save the money. I was at least assured that if I send it in for repairs I will be getting back my same A01 Model. She tried to talk me into getting a Slim instead.

"Do you play PS2 games? One thing we can do is send you back a slim, but it won't have the backwards compatibility."
"No, I actually got rid of my PS2 because I have an A01. I have an extensive PS2 library."

Well sir, if you look at your terms of service you'll see that you actually DID agree to this process should something like this occur.

It's not so much that as that they'll run out eventually.

Wish they'd kept a fully compatible model in production.
