Discuss.

Okay.

It's a link.

To a PDF.

That doesn't say what the fuck it actually is.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I've already discussed that, at considerable length, but I can't find the thread right now.

I think you need to calm down a little about links, thad. Every one of us knows how to both click a link and then read what its about after clicking it. Seriously man, its ok.

No. I need a synopsis of what's being posted before I can decide to read it, and in teg's post there is literally no way to know what the fuck that is except that it's from Nintendo.

It's not a matter of, "This is an obnoxious thing to do," it's a matter of, "I don't expect people to read what doesn't interest them, let alone discuss at a prompt." Not explaining what a link is or why someone should be interested in it is the surest way to decrease the number of people who might read it.

Guys I hate that when I come to the boards I need to click on a thread to see what the most recent post is. Can we make it so the main page has the entire post under the link to the post so I know what I'm about to click before I do?

If you can't be bothered to summarize your link, why would I be bothered to read it?

Becuase the link is to a  PDF, the text from which can't be copied and pasted. If I hadn't linked it, you guys would probably be bugging me for a source.

But since you insist, here is a "summary" for the three goddamned sentences of text I linked that nobody could be bothered to read:

Nintendo confirms that a new console is coming in 2012. It's not on their financial forecast, which implies it won't be around until after March of next year. It will be playable at E3 this year.

"Especially if it requires me to wait 30 seconds while a goddamn slow-ass plugin loads just to read it."

You see, now I really want to load and read whatever else is on that PDF!

A good summary might have been, "Internal memo 're: Wii's successor system'"

Also "E3 Expo"

You could have done without the link and just said "so how about that Wii 2" probably. I think it's also known as project café.

Nintento Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.
We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.[/quote.

Hrm.

Sorta seems like they're competing directly with their existing touchscreen portable.

Yeah. It's kind of a baffling move, but it would basically allow for arbitrarily complicated controller schemes and for you to be able to play your favorite classics on a portable. So I can see some up-shots.

Some.

In theory.

In practice, no.  You could use a few different regions of the screen and a few different gestures, but too many regions means you'll have to be looking at the touchscreen and not the TV screen and too many gestures means they're going to start getting similar and error-prone.

Nintendo's good at keeping shit simple, but still manages some fucking boneheaded mappings (NSMBW plays just like regular SMB, except with an Automatically Lose button right the fuck next to the D-pad).

Six-inch touchscreen controllers with built-in camera confirmed.

Wowzers.
The source of this article doesn't seem any more reputable than all the other speculation that was going around a bit. This seems dubious to me.

But I guess we'll find out in a few days.

It would be nice if a 3DS could double for a controller in a pinch though.

:derp:
:words:

That and the tactile response of buttons is pretty key to the way we all play games, but I was taking an optimistic tack dammit.
