Pitamaha [HP: 20/32, still doin' fine] repositions himself to the skeleton's side to give Briar an opening [shifting to the space indicated], and lunges. [Twisted eye, 1d20+5=21, success, hitting for 1d8+3=5 damage] "Thou art alone now," he said, never breaking contact with his enemy's sockets. "Canst thou feel despair, I wonder?"

[As a result of the attack, until the end of my next turn, the target takes a penalty to attack rolls equal to the number of my allies adjacent to it. Now would be a very good time for Dog and Briar to close with it, as I don't count as one of those allies.]

A normal opponent might surrender at this point, but this skeleton, armed with a gleaming mithril greataxe, fights fearlessly. He slashes Pitamaha square in the chest.

Pitamaha takes 15 damage.

This is no ordinary axe, you sense.

PCs' turn.

Francisca notices Pitamaha take a particularly nasty looking hit, she runs up to beside Briar, shouting out to him. "You've done well, Sir Pitamaha! But there's no shame in retreating and healing your wounds!

[Casting majestic word on him,  he gets +4 HP on top of what he'd usually get, plus he can slide one space for free]

"You bag of bones!" Briar roars. "Leave him be!" She dashes forward, whirling her axe like a saw.

[The Effect includes Briar shifting the skeleton one square and taking its old spot. Not like it'll matter in a moment.]

Briar brings her axe down in a two-handed swing that breaks the skeleton in half like dry kindling.

The skeletons and armour lie still again, as nature intended.

Alcoves to the north reveal two stone statues like the ones in the south. Both are of dwarven warriors in armour. On the left, the plaque at the base of the statue reads "Eadric, Slayer-of-Goblins", in the Dwarven script. The statue holds a real war axe which has rusted with age. The statue on the right has toppled over and smashed into pieces, and its plaque reads "Rurik, Feared-by-Giants". Its weapon is missing from its hand.

The mithril greataxe wielded by the skeleton lies now among the bones at Briar's feet. Its haft is engraved with the same runes as the plaque of Rurik, and is in impeccable condition.

Exits from the burial chamber lead north and east. The north is completely dark except for Dog's sunrod, while the east has a faint torchlight at the end.

Francisca brushes her hair out of her face, a little disheveled after the excitement of battle, "Is everyone alright? That.. ahh.. went better than it could have, I guess!" She looks around, popping her monocle back in. "God, I wanted to be diplomatic with the dwarves, let's hope they don't see the mess we've made..."

Dog gathers the bones and tosses them in the pits he believes they came from. He then bends over and sprinkles some Blessed Soil over the bones and says a few words under his breath. He stands up, cracks his back and dusts himself off. (Healing surges to get me back to normal.)

"Heh. Looks like I'd've been coming here anyway, stolen sword or no. Looks like these guys've been messin' with the undead." He looks at the group. "This place got a bit more interesting."

[I think outside of combat, I give everyone +4 HP whenever they use healing surges.]

Francisca walks over to dog, tapping her foot and rubbing her chin, "Hm.. I wonder if maybe that has something to do with the theft of the sword. I mean, what better tool than a paladin's blessed sword for keeping undead under control?" "... Well, other than a blessed mace, that is."

Briar takes a moment to calm down and work out the soreness in her muscles [using a healing surge]. She growls as she sees her axe was nicked and dented in the fight. Her eyes fall on the mithril axe and she picks it up, tests its weight with a few experimental swings, and smiles.

"I'm gonna borrow this," she declares, leaning her own axe in the hall alcove. "These bones attacked us even though we were just looking around, and now my axe is busted. Fair's fair."

Vivi stops playing with errant shadows, even though little shadows need attention too so they can grow into big ones, and drifts over to the party, looking bubbly and smiling serenely. "I got one~" she announced to no one in particular in sing-song.

Pitamaha was kneeling on the floor to catch his breath [spending a healing surge in addition to Majestic Word, bringing his HP total to 29 out of 32], then slowly pushed himself to his feet, standing straight-backed and sturdy as ever. "I think I shall never accustom myself to battle," he said, and sheathed his sword. "Let us be grateful that only our enemies were grievously injured."

"I'm not sure how much more injured a skeleton can get, sir," Briar notes, toeing an errant rib into the pit. "I think our quarry, whoever they be, lie to the east. Even thieves need light to see by."

Francisca peeks into the pit, "Oh my. Briar, remind me to never let my skeleton get on your bad side." She has a small book out, jotting down a few quick notes while everyone gets settled and ready to head onwards.

Ampersand keeps resting against the wall as he watches  the rest of the group recover. "Done already?" He closes his eyes and stretches a bit, not wanting to move until his energy is back up (short rest for encounter powers).

You're able to take a short rest.
