Francisca crosses her arms. "I don't think you've read enough stories, Kalor, you should know by now that offering the heroes of the tale a chance to become evil with you tends to lead to evil getting its rear end thoroughly kicked."

She looks over at the others, "We're not seriously considering working with this guy, are we?"

Briar steps out from beneath the Godhammer. "Join you? You really think I'm gonna join the monster who killed my family and enslaved my father's clan? I just killed you, Kalor. If I gotta, I'll do it twice."

"As you wish."

The modrons hesitate. You all win the initiative.

Gus has an idea. It's... well, it couldn't possibly go any worse than his last one.

"Modrons, state your mission, please."

(Gus' plan aside, maybe this is a good chance for Franny to check out the scroll she took from Ampersand that he got off Sigilus.)

"You may tell them," Kalor's the voice booms.

Three tridrones chant in unison:

"Our orders are to turn the Gears of Time until we discover the optimal position of the cogs by brute force. Optimal position is determined by a value of N equals zero, in the algorithm of..."

The tridrones mutter a complex mathematical theorem. Cogs' eyes light up - again, literally.

"Cogs is good at numbers. In adventurer terms, if they turn cogs to the right place, this big machine divides by zero and jumps the world ahead an infinite amount of time. Which... would cause the end of the world, Cogs guesses?"

"Once set," continue the Tridrones, "Only modrons are permitted to trigger the Godhammer, since if a mortal creature were killed by Godhammer, their soul would replace the soul inside Godhammer. Further, no modrons may sit in any of the thrones, since these souls would join the inhabitant of Godhammer when trigg--"

Kalor's booming voice shouts: "Enough! You've said too much already. Destroy the intruders!"

It's your combat turn, and all PCs win the initiative.

"Great. So either one of us dies and replaces Kalor in that thing or we all die to these mod-rons," Briar mutters grimly. "Nothin' for it then."  She swings around the pillar, using the momentum to get into a charge straight at the platinum drone.

Quote
Brutal Advance

14 + 10 = 24 ... success

Damage
1d12 +5
10 + 5 = 15

The hit knocks the drone against the wall, and Briar charges again, not letting up.

Quote
Brutal Advance secondary

12 + 10 = 22 ... success

The hit knocks the drone flat. Briar turns her head and roars, "Franny! Vivi! Granfather! Strategize something!"

Well, damn. I guess personally knowing the "robed humanoid" and watching him get squooshed, the modrons still recognize him as their leader. I was hoping to talk them out of it by pointing out a giant hunk of crystal isn't a robed humanoid, but whaddyagonnado.

At least we know why we were in here for a day and two years passed outside; the Godhammer is screwing with time.

I'll take a combat turn when I get home. I have mostly at-wills left but if we want to try shoving modrons around under the hammer or onto thrones I'm open to suggestions.

Five PCs still to go.

Does anyone want to control Cogs or Kazrac for me?

Twelve Modrons, twelve thrones and a speech about how one can't sit on the other. There has to be some more to this Ampersand hasn't figured out yet. He just... hasn't figured it out yet.

Nope, there's no obvious connection between the chairs and the modrons.

Point at a Modron, attempt an Eldritch Blarst, miss, skurry over to Kazrac's side and throw up some concealing mist. Occasionally point my thumb at Kazrac or shift my eyes to the side to indicate he did it.

(I've posted like twice, and it keeps not working, the gist of it is that Francisca realises that there's probably more to this fight that we can see, so she decides to check out the latest scroll we got for any clues)

It's a page from the Pantheon. It says only one word: "Agreed." It's traditionally the final word in the book. Below it are twelve signatures in various alphabets, some in languages you don't recognize. They're too hard to read in the middle of combat.

Not getting any relevant info from it, she decides another tactic. "Kalor!" she shouts. "Why are you doing this? What do you have to gain from destroying the world?"
