Twitter fox tends to grab focus with its pop ups, but only on Ubuntu.

I'm having a tough time thinking of a situation where I'd want a program to steal focus.

It sure would be great if AT&T would have gotten off their asses and added MMS at the same time the iPhone got it.

For a while now, almost all of the PC games I've bought, old or modern, have been chuggy to various degrees, sometimes slightly, sometimes unplayably. I've chalked it up to being on a 7+ year old install of Windows XP.

Until now.

Back when I got Mass Effect, I had to disable a specific audio codec to get around some sort of bizarre sound problem. It didn't seem to break anything at the time, so I forgot about it.

Until now.

"Oh hey, that's still disabled, and I haven't played ME in like ever."

*enable*

"Oh hey, I can play Left 4 Dead 2 with maxed settings instead of mid-low now."

You know what I hate?

Word processing programs.

Thirty years of design and still once you get further in than the simplest rich-text format stuff, these programs are still the most useless, conterintuitive, terribly-designed pieces of garbage.

Uh?

Oh I don't remember the specific problem anymore*. It's a just a general irritation I have with how unbelieveably counterintuitive the interfaces are on WP programs are.

*My way of resolving it was "Ask Koipond, who is an English major and knows how to get these programs to do what you want. Koipond then shakes his head at my trying to do anything in a WP program and offers to do the whole thing in InDesign for me without my asking."

Actually I can't think of any reason that would be... unless they're using some kind of terrible web portal/interface that hates FF and other browsers?  :wat:

Bingo.

And it's not like it's some "IE is the recommended browser" type scenario.  It actually prevents me from logging in if I'm using anything else.

I'm not too fond of the change in the UI of embedded Youtube movies wherein I can't just click the logo in the corner and have it bring up the movie's page in another tab without the embedded movie loading as well.  I only want one Youtube movie in memory at a time, but to only have it load on its own tab I have to click the logo twice, then go back to the original tab and reload the page to get it to stop playing the embedded movie.

There's an important technical reason behind this. Sometimes you need to be able to specify the use of a particular character, but you also don't want to have to have a key for both on your keyboard. So there are three separate characters for straight, open, and close quotes, in much the same way that there are separate characters for lower- and upper-case letters, or distinctions between visually identical Roman and Cyrillic letters, or fuckty-billion different kinds of space.

The problem is that "smart" quotes are not.

So while browsing sites on Wikia, I've noticed that I start getting ads when I follow links navigating away from the page.  These aren't ads for Wikia content, this Wikia making money off of other websites.  The entire thing feels scummy.

I don't understand what you mean.  Are you saying you still see ads on the internet?

So now they've changed it so that when I log off of Hotmail, it no longer redirects me the terribly-trashy, but easy to ignore MSN.com.

Now, I get a redirect to a page that tries to browbeat me into downloading IE.
