That forge is actually useful if you happened to find the flamegold bar in the ship level beforehand. Aaaand if you have enough strength to use the resulting sword. Which is almost never the case, I suppose.

I like the game a lot but even I will admit the ghouls are bullshit. They aren't weak to anything except instant-death physics and do way too much damage for how many of them show up at once. Even the tough endgame enemies are more fun to fight even if only because they play by the same rules as you do and don't end up in dumb slugfests where you hope their AI makes a mistake so you can cheese them.

The demon form is mostly a crutch in case you bone up your skill points something fierce, where you don't have enough warrior stats to use the good weapons and not enough wizard stats to use strong spells often. If you specialized correctly, it's gonna be weaker than anything else you can do. That said it is actually pretty fun to use against the weaker enemies in the [spoiler]Necromancer[/spoiler] levels; the sprint power attack is a sort of quick pounce move and landing it on a sucker feels like a million bucks.

Incidentally, I hear the 360 version is pretty much the same except there's no customization, you just pick a class and progress in it at set points. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Pro: You never accidentally put points into the thief skills.

Con: No warrior with the ice spell.
