Ahh! Looks like my Free Company is transferring to Balmung. So I probably will be too.

Well, that server transfer happened fast. What's your name in game?

Also, anyone reading this; Final Fantasy XIV is really, really good now. It's kind of refreshing!

NORONDOR COME ITT

Feeling super ambivalent about trying FFXIV, mostly because it came out at the precise time I started feeling like I was GTOFTS, but.....probably eventually.

Maybe when I get fired for poast@werk

Noro is the one who got Deforestation and I to play on Balmung in the first place.

I DONT WANT TO PLAY ANOTHER MMO

I actually find myself physically incapable of playing MMOs anymore. They have no hold or fun for me anymore. I keep trying, but it's not working.

I can't figure out if this is a positive or a negative.

I've had a lot of time to think about it and I'm convinced the answer depends on the size of your paycheck.

MMO -> high utils/$, low utils/time.
Other games -> low utils/$, high utils/time.

gosh, brother, i don't know

I mean, Noro swears up and down about how good 2.0 is and he and I basically agree on everything gamewise, with the caveat that MonHun doesn't really click for me and I know I'm in the wrong about that.

But I'm still pretty in touch with the FFXI intelligensia so to speak and while they (the group most likely to be critical of 14 because they stand to suffer the most from it being good) are generally positive there are a few observations that give me pause, mainly that it imports FFXI's multiclassing to a post-WoW quest-based XP grind and ultimately bones you by forcing you to spam FATEs after completing your first job, which sound pretty unfun to me in this, YoOL 2013

I'll probably give in at some point my experience has been that I ultimately sacrifice a lot when I play one of these things in any meaningful way and the opportunity to make bros is always nice but "play MMO or have no vidya gaem bros" is a Reverse Hanged Man Tarot situation from which I have lately sought to extricate myself

I kind of think I would be better off if I stuck with games that either had ends or were match-based.

basically, but it's worth mentioning this is within the context of gaming specifically, which itself is VERY far on the "low money cost, high time cost" end of the spectrum

i mean MMOs would be cheaper than spending all that time reading library books depending on how far you had to drive to actually get to the library

There HAS to be something like an MMO that allows you to pick up and play at any time with any of your friends, but the closest thing I can think of is CoH's sidekick system which was kinda not that fun.

You can level sync down in FFXIV-2, but not up. There are other MMOs and pseudo-MMOs where it's not applicable at all, or it works in the other direction (like warframe where playing lower level missions does no one any harm and you usually have something to level up down there anyway), but when it comes to true blue MMORPGs being able to play with anyone without putting in the work kind of defeats the whole draw for the thing.

Still terrible at fighters but I  am really digging the ME3/Warframe formula these days.
