FFXIV looks amazing, has the right aesthetic and feel, and seems to be attracting the attention of enough people it would never be too hard to find a group.

But, seriously, why settle for another standard hotkey-based auto-attack, tank / heal / dps required, diceroll combat when Elder Scrolls Online, Everquest Next, Wildstar and monster hunter online are all around the corner?

From noon to 8 AM?

EDIT:
The original post has been updated to be 12AM, which is still ambiguous, but the convention that I have been taught to use:
12AM is midnight.
12PM is noon.

I've had the discussion about the prevalence of the Holy Trinity with friends rather often. The short answer is because the Holy Trinity works while encouraging interesting gameplay ideas. Look at GW2 where it lead to "Well, it means everyone has to be able to do everything." It was an interesting experiment, but it led to role dilution to the point of having the exact same expectations of your character in solo as in higher end cooperative content.

And no, from 12 midnight. Noro had a legacy character that existed on one of the old servers, so it has a population restriction on it.

I have played games, such as GW2, that got rid of the trinity in one way or another, and when it comes down to it, for this kind of content, I like the trinity. You can subvert it slightly (and happily if done well) by having legitimate support roles, as in Rift, but there's just a lot you can do with those three roles.

Elder Scrolls Online: jokes. Triple-Dipping shit show in the making.
Everquest Next: SMEDLEY THE DREAM DESTROYER is enough to avoid any SOE game.
Wildstar: maybe? Isn't that Nexon, known for super grind-y mmos?
Monster Hunter Online: probably not coming to the US considering the problems of getting the games here in the first place. PC*Capcom*Chinese Release = ???

The crazy china company already plans on a western release of Monster Hunter Online, it's more of a question of when it is going to come out (if ever) and whether it will even be worth playing.

While I haven't heard much, what I have heard on MHO suggests Monster Hunter Frontier + more grind + Pay 2 Win.  Also might be fucking up a weapon style or two?  not sure about that.

Looks pretty, though.

edit: basically when everyone first caught wind of the actual developer and the reduced or minimal role of the actual MH team, warning klaxons were going off everywhere.

I WILL NOT BE CYBER-BULLIED

RE: the trinity, I think Niku's right: dropping all that shit sounds like the Wave of the Future until you remember that people actually WANT to play tanks and healers and pure damage and don't want to have to juggle roles in individual situations.  If you want to change up, play something else.

Playing Something Else was always 11's strength and I understand it's back in 14.

Switching classes is exactly the same action as switching main hand weapon

EDIT: It should be noted that the game defines not just every combat job as a separate class, but also every crafting and gathering job. All of which can be leveled, and to avoid the grind, you get a flat 50% bonus while leveling anything other than your highest level job. You can also learn to summon your Chocobo as a combat pet, and it too can be leveled to help you out while soloing.

Also every job can cross class certain abilities to greater and lesser extents. This includes crafters who gain abilities to increase the chance of producing high quality items. This must be balanced against the durability of your materials. Yes. You can develop a crafting rotation, and it differs between crafts what is actually best.

Yeah that's kind of a refinement of 11's crafting, which was bird's-eye-view probably the best thing about the game.

I'm getting more into it. Working on becoming a dragoon now. It's a pretty fun game - and I'm skipping ALLLLL the sidquests!

Need free company ideas. 20 characters with 5 character max for the tag. The tag appears next to the name.

[Band of the Chocobo] <GATSU>?
[Judges of Achadia] <Judge> (Or Eorzea)
[Vaguely Competent] <Okay> or <OK>
