We'll see what happens tonight.

So I made a single player character to poke around and figure out how shit works.  How does single player vs. multiplayer work out?  Can I just pop my character back and forth between the two?  Is progress saved?  Should I have separate single player and multiplayer characters if I want my single player to be ~pure~ and not loaded up with GodAxes forged from Mt. Fucklympus?  Yaddayadda.

A quick test implies that your character keeps everything on their person and in their ship between single/multi/whatever. If you replate your ship in gold and are wearing godarmor you'll pop into multiplayer that way so yeah, make a fresh one if you want to desperately bang stones together.

Also you can only port back to your ship if there's a clear path straight up from where you are

I imagine that's how it's meant to work, but in this version (Perturbed Koala) I've definitely been barred from fast-porting out of a straight drop shaft and I've definitely teleported through a lot of soil just by clearing away the background tiles.

Except you get a pre-built sky haven that is actually 100% safe. Tradeoff: you can't keep any useful NPCs there.

so this game is easy to mod certain things into

You can basically add anything into the starter ship and just sail it into people's servers

Duping items is easy.

If you're on a friend's ship when they Save & Quit, you get to stay on it and take whatever you want out of the chests. Obviously it doesn't affect their local save because they've already saved and quit.

Hell, they can just backup their ship file.

Place is getting a bit cozy.  I did do some straightening up after taking that screenshot though.  In particular, I moved the refinery over that campfire to make the accompanying sign a bit more relevant.

Game is doing a 'character reset'  on the next few days. I'm not sure how that'll work, but you might want to learn to back up your savefiles.
