Huh.  That spike in difficulty at the end wasn't nearly as bad as people say, although

It's really pretty much just the one jump.

I pretty much gave up on the Meat Circus when they expected me to get a knife throwing guy to throw knives at Raz, hit a spinning wheel behind him, and use the spinning wheel-slash-knives to swing up to a platform, all the while the escort character gets his face ripped off.

you only need one knife to hit the spinning wheel, then you can just ride it where you need to go.

I just want people to think slightly harder about whether or not they should just put up a new topic.  (The answer is they should.)

In addition to starting new threads, I would like to remind everybody to pay attention to the threads we already have.  There is, for example, no compelling reason to post about Good Old Games in the Game News Dump thread when there is already a thread called Good Old Games FIVE LINES DOWN FROM THERE.

The dump threads are there for a reason, but it doesn't hurt to get specific.

(Standard caveat: unless you're SoraCross.)

(Incidentally, what do people think of locking all the dump threads and starting new ones, say, at the beginning of '09?  Some of those things are getting fucking unwieldy.  The election threads, obviously, have a built-in expiration date, but I'd say new comic and game threads are probably in order in the next few months too.)

Honestly, I'd say once a month is better. Those dump threads get big fast, and I always thought having 30 or 40 page threads was retarded because no one ever reads more than 10 pages tops, so it leads to a lot of repeat information and statements. Also, I think we should have a "Threads of Legend" archive thread so that locked threads can easily be found and not clutter up their respective board.

Ehhhh.  I like keeping the dump threads as they are.  Easier to search through, easier to aggregate, and if people are going to be sitting down and reading the backlog of a megathread, it's not like splitting it across five threads makes that any easier.  If anything, having one constant Movies dump thread is simpler than locking the old one and founding a new one periodically.

Particularly if some sort of Show All option were added, to let you view an entire thread in one page.

Dump threads are a lot more like chat rooms than other topics.  People pop in and out and write things of vague relation to the topic, and if a conversation starts, the thread is split.  If not, things get left behind.  Dump threads really aren't intended for reading beginning-to-end.

I wouldn't mind taking old dump threads, locking them, sticking them in a box, and starting new ones... but I'm not sure what the point of that would be.

:derp:

In my defense, I was going straight to the Game News Dump thread from the main page, so I missed that.

re: locking dump threads.
Keep them running! It's fun to see gigantic page lists like that. And a quick search tells you if something's already mentioned.
...
Which I should have done.
