Manufactured controversy and cheap cynicism aren't exactly the identifying marks of a brilliant comic.

Wonder Woman is a well done animated film, and it really is the treatment she needed instead of what she got in Justice League. Nathan Fillion is a good choice for Steve Trevor, and Alfred Molina gives a gloriously fun turn as Ares. If there's one thing that hurts the film, it's that it moves too fast. The Themyscira scenes get plenty of screen time, but once she moves to the regular world there aren't enough scenes of her interacting around the world. And the last battle scene almost becomes a mess because of how quickly things move along.

All in all very good, much better than Death of Superman and I haven't seen New Frontier yet.

I watched this!

Agreed overall with Constantine. The Themyscira scenes drag a bit (especially with the stilted dialogue -- yes, the Amazons need to speak in highfalutin English, but they don't goddamn need to speak entirely in exposition), and there's not enough Man's World.

The cast is quite good, particularly Molina as Ares and Nathan Fillion as the character Nathan Fillion plays.

Worth checking out, would like to see more. Looking forward to Green Lantern.

So Grant Morrison's writing a new out-of-continuity Wonder Woman series. I'm curious to see just how odd it's going to be, since it's free of the editorial constraint an in-continuity book would be. Cover-to-cover bondage and menses? Time will tell.

The are based on a vague continuity and fit into the world, but have no clear place in time.
Of course, this applies more to ASS than ASB.

Has anyone ever done an actual, DC-published "Wonder Woman likes girls" story? Because it's been implicit since the fucking beginning.

Grant DID lead up to this story by saying he'd been uncomfortable with the weird BDSM stuff Marston worked into WW's original conception but that he wanted to push through that and get to the essence of the character. I think a nice, non-exploitative lesbian romance would do a great job of being true to the character's origins without actually exploring the depths of WMM's kink.

"Non-exploitative" is the key phrase, and the tricky part. DC's had to walk that line with Batwoman, and has sometimes succeeded and sometimes failed. (I think "got kicked out of the military under DADT" is a perfectly serviceable origin story; on the other hand, I am not a fan of the "all the lesbians in the DC Universe know each other (just like all the Africans in the Marvel Universe)" trend.)

I just finished reading Guardians of the Galaxy, and it seemed as though Phyla and Heather's romance wasn't exploitative. I mean, it wasn't at the forefront of their interactions with each other, but it was there.
