I assume we enter the IP into the "remove server", all other things staying standard.

Also, if you feel like being lame, you can enter "crosshair X" into the console and give yourself a crosshair, where X is any number, though I think it repeats after 10.  Crosshair 4 is pretty solid.

Urgh, I was lagging way to much for a game as fast as Quake. ;-;  With two-three people it was okay once we had five I had a greater than two second delay, sometimes.

Also I preferred the larger, more open stages than the last ones we played.  Too much random fire and with so many people and tight stages it was just a cluster fuck of dying as soon as you spawn and hoping you start near an available weapon.

Good games all.  That was much smoother than DOOM, probably due to the network protocol.  I would consider doing that again, or even trying out Quake II in the future.

There is a calling to play an RTS next.  In the spirit of revisiting the past, it should be of the mid to late 90's era.  Any suggestions?

Also, it would be awesome if we could get a larger turnout.  If you guys know anyone else who would be interested in these games, spread the word.

Warcraft II is probably the best candidate. Tons of fun, lots of scenarios, has 8-player capabilities, and is severely underplayed now.

Makaris and a couple others also mentioned Warcraft II.  Sounds good to me.

I'm going to try and dig up a copy of the 1999 re-release for Windows.  Stay tuned.. and... STOP POKING MEEEEEEE!!!!!

I'm not sure if that was honest lag or the netcode or just the game feeling old. By the end I felt pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's because I adjusted to the sort of 'gooey' netcode or because there was less people. Anyways I might give WC2 a go and spam bloodthirsted berserkers. Top tier strats.

I would release my key for 'move forward' and continue to move for a few seconds, occasionally.  My ping tends to be really good, but I guess it just didn't feel like cooperating.  Regardless, I'm curious about some WC2 shenanigans.  Hasted Death and Decay FTW.

After some extensive testing of several versions of Warcraft 2, it seems the DOS version is the most compatible.  The windows version does not support TCP/IP, and tunneling would require external programs.

So here you go:

Load it into dosbox and it should be ready to go.

As usual, if people show interest tonight I will start the TS server around 9:30. Teamspeak server info posted earlier in this thread.

As going head to head with Makaris will certainly result in my utter annihilation, I will gracefully back out as well.


These past couple of days have been an interesting test of classic PC gameplay over the internet.  I hope that my archaic DOS sagery has provided a fun and nostalgic time for those involved.

I think that rather than trying to throw together a random game on any particular night, it might work better if I organized a weekly or bi-weekly event.

Perhaps a poll would be helpful in selecting a game, though I'm not sure how I would work that on the boards without causing a fracas.

Any ideas please let me know, and thanks for all the gibs.
