RE: pony.mov series

it's made by the dude that does wacky gamer jokez for kids so "writer is dumb" is basically the default if you start thinking too hard about them

RE: Buge's picture

if you see a cartoon horse and think "oh man I need to go find a picture of her as a human so I can masturbate" you're a furry regardless

Isn't that to let water out so the brim doesn't fill up when it's raining?

Why wouldn't it be on the side or back, then?  Why directly over the eyes?

So it doesn't run down your collar?

Also, I think part of the reason SHED.MOV pissed me off so much is that the "HEY HEY HEY, STAY OUTTA MY SHED" throwaway line was one of the few things I thought was genuinely funny about the second one.

So you can see and control where the water lands? I don't actually have any idea what I'm talking about, here.

Why in god's name would anyone own and wear a cowboy hat in this day and age?

I have a hat myself, not a cowboy hat, but in any case I just bend the front downwards a bit and I never have water issues.

is just weird, man

I own a cowboy hat. I haven't worn it in a while but I do. Granted I own a lot of hats. It's sorta like this one, except the band is less brown. http://www.sheplers.com/i/p/096/096b78/096b78_89_p1_550x550.jpg Still, I like hats... Yeah. No caps though. Caps are bad!

Mine doesn't have a cleft in it.

This is also more like what an actual hat a cowboy would wear would look like. Cowboys weren't nearly as Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show as movies would lead you to believe.

EDIT: After saying that I google'd buffalo bill and he wore a fairly simple wide brimmed hat also!

I think a lot of better westerns show a pretty wide diversity of hats, including the simple broad-brimmed hats. But yeah.

Actually I haven't been able to find a photograph of a cowboy or cowboy hat with the cleft after several pages of GIS*, only cartoon ones. I'm beginning to think it might be visual shorthand for wear and tear.

*: The closest thing I've seen is...

...which ain't a cleft so much as it is two rolled-up sections of the brim.

Pretty sure it's artistic license.  Hats with flat-brimmed fronts tend to look bad on screen for a number of reasons (mainly it limits the number of angles you can actually see someone's face at), so actors tend to curl the front either up or down and animators just go ahead and cock up hats with an concave or missing front.  In practice I don't think there are any hat designs that actually come like that that anybody cares about.

(Applejack herself doesn't have to worry about that because the hat is sort of oddly placed on the back of her head anyway, but the sharp little points add a little bit of flare to the design and this is a SHOW ABOUT PONIES FOR GIRLS so yeah that wins.)

Yeah, it may just be visual shorthand for a brim with a lot of roll in it.

This is pretty much what mine looks like:

Except the brim is dipped more in the front, like this:

Okay, now that I'm actually watching more of this stuff I think I've cracked the code.  Friendship is Magic is not a show for little girls, despite its pedigree* and the fact that it's still about vain little ponies.  Friendship is Magic is a show developed and aimed at autistic children.  Its main character is an autist who claims to literally not know what friendship is and only understands social interactions through what she's read in a book.  At the end of every episode she unveils some revelatory moral that's kind of obvious to everyone else, but not its target audience really.  The whole thing is designed to attract and to teach children who lack natural social ability.

And the thing about children who lack social ability is that they aren't really that different from adults who lack social ability.

So if you're a grown male who likes Friendship is Magic and can't figure out why and are worried that you're secretly an asshole who keeps playing games for girls, take heart!  Friendship is Magic appeals to you because Friendship is Magic is for you!  You are the one who identifies with this cute gothy little pony and her ridiculous bullshit social issues!  You are the one who secretly needs and appreciates all the lessons on friendship and dealing with people that you're getting from this talking cartoon horse!  You are vicariously living out this fantasy of being shipped off a new town as a spiteful loner and suddenly being trounced upon by five fiercely loyal, interesting and talented friends who are determined to put up with your goofy bullshit and teach you to be normal!  You crave the message embedded deeply and not-so-deeply within Friendship is Magic, and that's perfectly fine, because let's face it, you really fucking need it.

Also you probably want to make horrible man-pony or woman-pony babies with Rainbow Dash and frankly I don't blame you.

* NOT intended.
