I was playing on a TF2 server tonight that turned out to be a pony server. The games were decent, but the chat was almost an exact echo of the Pony Thread Simulators.

The dude at 3:25 is a pretty good simulation of my reactions.

I really hate the reaction shots in those, actually.  Do we need to spend a minute establishing that you clearly are the only sane man in the room?

...

Of course we do.  What am I talking about.

The reaction shots remind me that the video is to mock them.

Staring at the abyss for so long calls into question the sanity of other people.

Yeah, the reaction shots are kind of a relief. Without them, you DO start to ask yourself if you're the only one screaming.

Also, they're funny punctuation for the particularly awful posts. I mean worse than the merely average level of horror.

I just think of the reaction shots as kind of a moment to step back and breath. Without them I would stand a chance of becoming the Joker and just wanting to watch the world burn.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

You're missing the second picture in that set.

I always wonder how much of this is lawyers sort of forced at lawpoint to act against their employers' best interests.  We know a popular pony fighting game is, despite its content, really kind of a good thing for the brand, but there's also a lot of terrible, badly thought out text in the legal definition of copyright that says that when someone even tangentially profits off a fan work, such as by getting positive word of mouth, you have to shut them down or risk losing your claim.  I don't know the full details but my feeling is the real blame should go to our back-asswards copyright system and not any actual individuals, as per usual.

The "You have to shut them down" rule applies to trademark, not copyright. My guess is that Hasbro may be planning a console Pony game and didn't want this hanging around. Video games kind of have this weird place in fanart. They shouldn't really be seen as distinct from artwork or written fiction, but they constantly get the cease and desists that other works don't. And that's before you get into the nebulous relationships that companies have with fan communities in the first place. (Anyone remember if Fox tried to remove all fan works from the web about X-Files?)
