This idea sounds kind of in-lore dumb.
Which cements, I guess, the idea that it's Star Wars fan-fiction written by D&D guys?

To say nothing of the grindtastic havoc it will play with the min/maxers.

I dicked around with Old Republic for a while. It was already pretty rough on my hoarding min/max mentality without knowing this stuff.

The cross-class stuff can't be used in raids or PVP (you need an active companion to use those special abilities), so they're basically just fun little things for the single player grind.

I've been playing TOR since launch and I love it.

Here's how you know this is a bad idea:

It's what Star Wars Galaxies did.

Bioware lays off 200 people, including Stanley "End of Rine" Woo

They've also lost half a million subscribers in the last month.

This ship has done sunk.

Upwards of 50% of that article was just SW:ToR Box copy.

Also Stan Woo was the face on that prickish banning decision (because they were criticized for selling their soul to EA) on the BioWare forums, right? I don't like him.

Access to the main story and even if they only give you one flash point a week still gives this potential to be as fun a co-op game as any dungeon crawler.

On the one hand, races are entirely cosmetic.
On the other hand, I'm curious to see if they can control galaxy population dynamics by cleverly rotating what races are allowed to F2Ps.
On the third hand, if I pay a month to get my sith chin-dick and quit, am I gonna get keep my sith race character?

This is definitely a case of a company having it's arm twisted to go F2P. Tor has been on a steady decline since launch. I've heard reports of some servers having less than a dozen capped players on at peak, which is probably hyperbole a bit but it's not the first time an MMO has come out with way too many servers for way too small of a population. I've heard estimates as low as 400,000 active players - somebody at EA has to be smart enough to know that they're going to lose half of that or more when Mists of Pandaria launches in September. Make it free to play and pick up a new playerbase or stay premium and risk losing everything, but nobody competes with WoW on even footing.

Mako, is this really necessary?
I'm telling you, once you win the Great Hunt, you can't just keep walking up to people and asking if they have bounties.  You need a net presence.
A what?
So I'll set up a page on the HoloNet where the right sort of buyers can seek you out, instead.  But the first thing we need for that is a picture.
Ugh.
Okay, biiiiig smile!

Oh.  Oh god.  Okay.  I can work with ... oh no ...
