Frocto I dare you to beat the Pig Factory segment of Virtual Bart (http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=30206) for the ZSNES.

Frocto: Kaizo Mario stage 1, no statesaves. It would have been stage 12 with statesaves, but I couldn't find a save file to download.

The vending machine puzzle from Infocom's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I will provide the game image and an interactive fiction client configured to be nice and legible even with a screen the size of a YouTube video.

Edit: it goes without saying that you're not allowed to use a guide.

Okay, just reiterating what I said earlier.

If you want me to play a specific part of something, send me a save file, otherwise I'm just going to play the game from the start. Special instructions might be listened to, but I'm only recording ten minutes of footage for each game, so try to pick something snappy.

Anyway, I will get started on these soon, boys and girls. :)

I would also appreciate it if Envy and Dogstar could post their suggestions in this thread for everyone else's benefit.

Frocto: You can't actually select a stage in Virtual Bart. It's "random". I'd appreciate it if you do not skip this process in the video. Even if it takes you like, fifty save-state resets just to fucking enter the Pig Factory and you end a minute in. Otherwise you're good to go from the start.

I think this is a sterling example of the quality of design Virtual Bart is known for.

Here's how this will work, Frocto. I've prepared the game and the emulator all in one handy archive (http://rapidshare.com/files/266303750/gargoyle.zip.html). I've adjusted the display settings so that it'll fit in a youtube window. To start the game, drag hhgg.z3 onto frotz.exe or gargoyle.exe, or open gargoyle.exe and choose hhgg.z3.

When you're ready to start playing, type the command "restore" and select the save file, also in the same directory, froctooo.sav. This will drop you at the beginning of the puzzle without any context.

Standard interactive fiction conventions apply: "look" to examine your surroundings, "i" to see your inventory (you'll want to do this), I'm assuming you're familiar. Since the display area is relatively small, you can use page up and page down to review older text.

You'll know you have won when the babel fish is in your ear. If you get pulled out of the room, you've lost and will have to start over. Hit "restore" again. I do not recommend overwriting your save file.

Post by: Beat Bandit on August 11, 2009, 03:21:22 PM
Nevermind, the boss is the best part anyway, so I put you basically right next to her.

The Game: Terranigma.

The Challenge: Kill the Queen of Spain

The Files: Game, Save, and a note giving the only walkthrough info I want you to have. (http://rygaronline.pyoko.org/froctomaykillhimself.rar)

I only fear I have made it too easy.

Yeah, around level 12 and under, or if you have the wrong weapon on. It takes you literally eight hours to do. I hate myself.

I was following a Terranigma LP for a while, and that's where and why the guy quit. There are ways to make the fight go faster if you know what you're doing but even then it's still a total bitch.

I am sorry for this, but I will have you play the WORST FAN GAME I have ever received. The poor kid worked his heart out for some of the most boring, tedious, awful game design ever. Play as far as you can! I completed all of it out of some sick sense of duty.

Did you watch the video? You should've clearly seen I loaded the state! I just had another look at the rom and L O L you expected me to load the game up and load the save file, which is something I haven't done on an emulator in years. I wasn't aware we were old men with zimmer frames.

Anyway, I will record a new video later probably, which will doubtlessly be 1,000 times less frustrating for me than the other one.

Okay, guys, I have hit a bit of a snag. Episode 9, Untigrand, is recorded but the 10 minute file of a text game is clocking in at 471 megabytes. Yeah, I know right

So what's the best way to compress this beauty?
Title: Re: Frocto May Cry

Chuck the frame rate.  I doubt you need 30 fps for a text game of any description.

[02:03] spikesjerico: oh this is that game about the girl that got raped
[02:03] spikesjerico: and made a horror game about it
[02:03] Frocto: oh is that what it's about
[02:03] spikesjerico: its stupid as shit
[02:03] Frocto: I kind of feel bad for making fun of it now
[02:03] spikesjerico: it tries to be artsy and falls on its ass
[02:03] spikesjerico: No that's okay.
[02:03] Frocto: that is basically the gist of what I say, yeah
[02:03] spikesjerico: Being raped is a horrible thing. But it is not something to talk about for the rest of your life and make video games about
[02:04] Frocto: true enough
[02:04] Frocto: it's a good thing you are too ugly to ever worry about being raped :)
[02:04] spikesjerico: According to the developer, the game is not meant to be played in the traditional sense, in that there is no winning strategy. In fact, much of the gameplay requires the player to choose the losing path, in order for the sisters to run into encounters which they (and hence the player) are meant to experience. Even the story narratives are not typical for a game, as explained by the developer, "We are not story-tellers in the traditional sense of the word. In the sense that we know a story and we want to share it with you. Our work is more about exploring the narrative potential of a situation. We create only the situation. And the actual story emerges from playing, partially in the game, partially in the player’s mind."
[02:04] Frocto: my good friend emily is safe
[02:05] Frocto: woooow
[02:05] spikesjerico: translation: I am pretentious as fuck, wakka wakka wakka

[02:07] spikesjerico: they say the game is free form
[02:07] spikesjerico: but it really is basically the same thing over and over
[02:07] Frocto: you have to collect flowers, I think
[02:08] spikesjerico: you have to find the generic as shit big bad wolf rapist-symbol
[02:08] Frocto: anyway
[02:08] spikesjerico: then go to grandmas house and get raped
[02:08] Frocto: make sure you watch that video to where I find the poem thinfg
[02:08] spikesjerico: if you don't get raped you get the game over screen

I'm glad that, despite it sucking, you went through the proper section of Terranigma. At first I figured just the Queen was enough to let you know how much of a hopeless endeavor it feels like fighting her. Then I realized "wait, when you fight her daughter they give you very simple instructions, but Frocto is not one to figure out things like that!"

You did not disappoint, thank you.
