I thought it was just "give whatever bonus you have on your shield to the whole party", but that's not right either. Everyone who doesn't have a shield gets a bonus as though they had a light shield, and that's it.

Yeah, in this case it's just what the feat says flat out. Feats that give other stuff, like Hafted Defense for polearm wielders, would say "+1 shield bonus to AC and Reflex".

I think the reasoning behind Reflex being on shields is because every class (or at least the large majority of them) that wants to use a shield doesn't really care about DEX or INT, and as a result tends to have a lower Reflex, and the shield bonus patches it up a bit.

Added Word of Blindness as a new Encounter Power, replacing Whispers of Defeat. Retrained, opting out of the Psychic Lock feat and taking Implement Focus (staff) for those juicy numbers. Also bought a couple handy utility rituals (since we never use them).

My first idea for Latir gave him Ritual Caster, I just dropped it on the respec. I'd use the fuck out of them if I had them.

I kinda wanna play two characters but damn last couple weeks at work have left me no time to EVEN PLAY ONE. That stated got a couple days off before I go back to 12 hour days. SO I'M GONNA BE POSTING AND SHIT! Also, Attica is a beast... A SEXY BEAST? She's electrifying? Neh? neh? She's a bit catty? Huh huh? All puns aside, that character looks cool!

Kind of a patchwork way of doing it, but I updated Ilex's sheet to reflect the Springs and armor upgrade, bringing her defenses higher.

Modified the post upthread for new stuff.

Since I used the Violent Darkness on Latir's plate armor to increase its enchantment to +4, does it automatically gain the masterwork abilities associated with +4 armor?

Adventurer's Vault Spectre Plate armor is minimum +4 and grants resist 2 all. Granted, my armor isn't made of spectrestuff, it's just proper dwarf steel, but I'm still not really sure how masterwork items actually function.

Armors gain extra AC as part of scaling automatically with enhancement bonuses. In addition, they may gain other effects. At +4 Plate can gain either 1 AC more over the last masterworking or Resist 2 all. Other types of armors have different effects and the masterwork benefits that aren't strictly AC boosts are from Adventurer's Vault. A few more steps in the enhancement curve for masterworking that only give AC are also added by the Vault.

Pretty sure the Rules Compendium also states that if an armor matches a masterworking enhancement range it is automatically masterworked to that, but none of the books take into consideration giving your players the ability to add flat enhancements to your armor or weapons. Masterworking is essentially just Improved Defenses/Weapon Expertise math fix-wise, except it's actually been around since PHB1 unlike the other fixes.

The masterworking material descriptions are kind of silly, but they're just fluff. If a Kestrekel doesn't exist in your setting that shouldn't stop you from being able to have the stats of Kestrekel Feather Armor.

If you used an item to make your armor +4, don't upgrade it to masterwork yet!!!!!

Oh right the stupid and confusing masterwork rules from PHB1.

It's assumed that ANY armor you find that is +4 is made of better material.

+2 Scale Mail is 7 + 2.

+4 Scale Mail is 10 +2.

But since I've been giving you guys items to improve what you have instead of finding suits lying around, this doesn't necessarily work too well.

I had an idea for this earlier today and I should be able to resolve things nicely and let you guys move up to the next masterwork category by the end of the current adventures, so for now save your gold until later.

+4 plate before Masterwork?

8 + 4 = 12.

After my big idea at the end of the current adventures I'll calculate fair costs to bump it to masterwork, which will make it 11 + 4.

+3 Masterworking exists in Adventurer's Vault, we're already in +3 Masterwork armor (or should be for those unaware).

Also this makes Ilex's AC 30, and I'll fix the masterworking and update the Orokos sheet in a second here.

It'll be way less confusing, especially to people without Adventurer's Vault, to just use Base Values from PhB1 until the thing I'm planning later.
