TO BE CONTINUED

Muscles can't do much of anything sitting inside the hollowed out tree stump that is Willard's head and body, so he passes the time by exploring, then napping, then getting up and running around in circles(causing Willard to chuckle and guffaw), then after a vigorous game of "flick and chase lucky silver coin", Muscles ends up waiting. Waiting for what?! Who knows! The top of Willard's head only offers a very indirect view of the passing of celestial bodies overhead as Byss' ship passes through the Reaches. Eventually Muscles sees the worked stone of some possible civilization passing by overhead as the ship navigates around something to some location, coming to a halt and allowing Dr Quint and Willard to disembark!

Dr Quint: "Now see here, Sincet, the others will meet you at the Grungy Gorgon in short order and your instructions will be delivered from there. Make haste!"

Muscles can watch a few things pass by overhead as Willard waddles into the mystery location. Worked stone, melded metal plates, swirling doo-hickeys of electrical whatever. Wide open spaces where arcs of green lightning crackle between colossal diodes. Everything smells like a forest! Eventually, Muscles can hear a bored voice remark to Willard: "Owlbear, right? They're docile when they're young... put him in the Pen."

The Pen!? The Pen!? Oh no! Muscles lets out a hoot as Willard takes heavy step after heavy step towards... The Pen!

Willard phases parts of himself ethereal and reaches into his own head, plucking Muscles out. He gives him one last affectionate squeeze(*hoot!*) before depositing him through a one-way hatch into a large terrarium! There seem to be dozens of herbivore or otherwise calm and docile beasts idling about, occasionally investigating some new bit of their surroundings before becoming bored and often tired again. Several of them appear to be Magical Beasts rather than straight up animals. Muscles sits on his bottom and raises his front paws to his face. He's never tried to make animal friends before!

A few of the other animals are already giving Muscles the sniff-over or a wary eye, but Muscles figures that he may as well reach out to one of them...

He can see a spring-tailed baby crocodile with glowing spiral eyes, a small super fuzzy floating cat, a piglet wearing boots... and one thing his size, what appears to be a small cow-sized black-feathered goose. A Dire Goose, if you will.

Who should Muscles befriend?

Oooh, make friends with the dire goose! Give him some dreadlocks and name him "Jason Moa"!

Eh? Eh? Get it? Like Jason Momoa, but.. you know... big, flightless bird...?

Springy Gator
    - 3 (42.9%)

Muscles sniffs back to the spring-tailed crocodile, giving it a quizzical "Hoot?" The glowy-eyes gator grunts in response. The two paw at each other a bit, and then Muscles does what he does best and hugs the crocodile! Springs, as he will henceforth be known, grunts and tries to bite down into Muscles' shoulder, but Muscles has too much fur and feathers and fat for that to be much good. Springs starts rough-housing with Muscles, who can't really tell the difference and rolls around and chases and is chased by Springs and before long, a life-long bond of friendship is formed. Awwww.

Later in the day a line of troughs along the side of the terrarium emits a pleasant *ding* and is then filled with minced vegetables. Along with the other animals and fey creatures, Muscles heads over to get some food, nom nom. It feels a bit lacking, though... Muscles sighs as he swallows it all the same, since he is rather hungry. Then he looks up from his dreary-dinner and his eyes glaze over with a new, unfathomable urge. Due to a curious reflection of light and his own image in the edge of the terrarium, he can see through the translucent wall for a brief moment and spots... a glass cage full of delicious mice!

Part Bear, Part Owl, All Hungry, Muscles has never really wanted for having his fill of whatever is available. But as Miss Elizabeth said, he is a growing Owlbear and he has been on many adventures... Muscles vividly dreams of dancing among fields of salmon fillets with delicate fish-bone grass, skipping happily between trees with leaves made of delectable mice. He rubs his butt against one and dinner falls, delicious... meat! Next to him, Springs is experiencing much the same longing and daydream. The two look to either side and into each other eyes, then solemnly nod. They know what must be done.

Springs and Muscles spend the rest of the day gathering all the rocks in the terrarium, making sure to pause and look cute whenever a random humanoid passes by on some mysterious errand. Eventually, Bubbles, Moa and Mister Boots have taken notice of Muscles and Springs antics are... help them! Within the hour they've constructed a great clumsy pyramid of stones at the base of the hatch Muscles was initially pushed through, and Springs sets himself down at the base of it, compressing his tail against the ground.

Moa lets out a honk and ducks his head down, picking up Muscles and sliding him down his back! Muscles hoots as he bounces to Springs, who lets his tail go and springs up, catching Muscles for a moment before pushing him away and up the stone pile! Muscles runs and climbs and paws as fast as he can once he lands, the stones already wobbling with his weight, the other animals watching tensely. Hoot.. hoot.. jump! Muscles jams his talons into the cracks of the one-way hatch and wedges them in, hooting triumphantly as he is able to hold on!

... The stones collapse under him! Muscles sweats a bit as he tries to open the hatchway... grunt, grunt, hoot... oh no! Cluck! He looks down to the other animals in surprise. He's stuck! But not for long, as somebody from the other side uses a broom to swat the hatch door, dislodging Muscles, who falls down to his friends with another hoot and lands on them, the five sitting together in a heap.

Back to the drawing board.

What should Muscles next plan be?

Air Duct
    - 3 (37.5%)

Pretend To Be Sick
    - 3 (37.5%)

Muscles has it! He gets his new friends together and hoots and clucks... every so often, little piglet Mister Boots uses a stick to illustrate the plan in the sand. After the creatures all come to an agreement, Springs tactfully wipes the sand clean with some tail swipes. No evidence!

Moa runs around and honks excitedly, then crashes into one of the trees in the area head-first! This shakes some under-ripe apples loose and he excitedly gobbles up most of them, then joins Muscles. Hurk... hork... HONK..! Moa barfs up a bit of the stuff, and Muscles winks at him. Moa runs off, honking, as Muscles gestures to Springs and Bubbles to hide for a moment. With a dramatic BUGAAWWWKK, Muscles falls over on his side and begins twitching, as though in a seizure! He lays next to the apple-hork Moa has barfed up and slaps his paw in it a bit, splattering some onto his face.

The animals can get a bit excited, but not this excited, thought the shapely assistant Nurse as she skipped across the lab, watching the owlbear baby have some sort of weird spasm attack. Nurse Jackett was different from most other mad science grad students, as she was quite literally a "skin-tight" white lab-shirt and skirt, elbow-length gloves and thigh-high white stockings with a tiny neat white hat drawn across.. thin air, the clothes animated with a life of their own. The Raggamoffyn nurse made her way to the designated entry capsule for the terrarium and entered without fear or hesitation, locking it behind her with keys on her person. After all, these were the docile herbivores!

Muscles keeps up the act heroically as Nurse Jackett comes up and examines him, using various prestidigitations and cantrips to take stock of his health and examine him for any possible external influences, muttering something(the sound coming from thin air where a mouth might be if visible) about "void parasites again." As she works... Springs and Mister Boots creep around the nearby tree and the raised bit of dirt is sits on. Mister Boots sets a little hooflet to his chin as he uses Perception to examine the tight contours of that animated outfit. He oinks softly to Springs, pointing out the appropriate crease that indicates a pocketed key-ring. Springs nods and slowly Sneaks along, gaining a little crocodile bonus as he zig-zags his belly across the sand leading up to the squatting nurse.

Muscles pushes his natural Charisma into the best Bluff he can as Springs tries to very, very carefully use Thievery, his spiral-eyes bouncing from side to side as Nurse Jackett unexpectedly adjusts her weight(spiral-eyed boggle) from "foot" to "foot"... and... he... has it! Springs quickly retreats with the key-ring, clamping his jaw down on it firmly to prevent it from jingling as he goes.

Nurse Jacket "looks" up with a "Hmm?" before going back to checking Muscles. Coming to the end of her examination, she decides it must be something he ate in the vegetable paste earlier... and administers a small dose of ipecac from her utility belt of common medicines and pats Muscles on the back as he does quite a bit of horking himself. "There's a good boy." Muscles is a bit shaken from the sudden need to puke and he needs to drop the act anyway, so he hoots contently at the patting. Nurse Jackett gets up to leave... and can't, with her keys lost!

The animals hold their breath as she stalks around the area Muscles lies at, and the path she took to reach it, looking for the keys. After several frustrated minutes, she begins a Sending ritual to contact another Raggamoffyn attendant to open the door from the outside and leaves, the door locked again behind the two.

Springs, Moa, Mister Boots, Bubbles and Muscles gather together and look at the keys! It would be time soon! They wait until nap-time(the lighting is artificially dimmed to simulate night-fall)... and Muscles, Bubbles and Springs gather together to begin the second part of the plan. Moa sits nearby, snoozing with Mister Boots sitting on his back and also snoozing.

Bubbles begins to inhale! and inhale! and inhale! more air, gradually swelling up in size like a balloon with each successive "mew!" Eventually she's as big as Muscles and begins to naturally rise... she reaches her little paws out and takes Muscles hand, and Springs runs up along his arm and hops onto her back. Muscles lets go and Bubbles drifts up to an air vent and Springs viciously tears at it, prying it open! He dashes into it with the keys in hand...

... and what should Springs do!? There are three ways to go! The way to the left feels ice cold and the cool air that keeps the terrarium temperate is being piped in from there, the way ahead seems neutral, but very dry... and the way to the right is heated and smells a bit bad. But also a bit appetizing.

Right, towards the Heated Air that Stinks.
    - 3 (50%)

Springs is a ferocious meat-eater so of course he knows exactly the right way to go. He scampers down the right air-duct path, running on all fours as he clamps down on the keys with his mouth. He scampers by a few gratings that let him see down... hmm. A few of the Nurses styling each others shirts. Next. Willard pacing around in circles, endlessly, occasionally letting out a small "gwor" or "hor." Next. A store-room of crazy machinery and crystals. Moving on...

Woah! Without warning the duct drops into a dramatic downward slant and Springs whips around, trying to claw his way at an edge or something... he fails and slides down! Whooosh.... corner spin, twirl, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... thumb. He lands on a semi-loose metal grating and looks down. A big stinking pile of offal!!!! He steps on the grating a few times, it wiggles and wobbles and clanks... he coils his tail and erupts upwards, to the top of the vertical shaft of the duct, then drops down again with a butt-stomp, crashing through the grating! He lands in the middle of the stinking greasy meat bits and starts snarfing a bit, cooing with satisfaction and rolling and swimming around in it all.

After a few blissful minutes, Springs submerges again and only lets his eyes poke out over the top of the meat pile. He appears to be in a massive circular chamber ringed by 8 iron-caged doors... each iron bar is carved with glowing soft-blue runes. Considering Dr Quint's work, everything is probably straight cold iron. Just looking at the stuff irritates Spring' swirly eyes a bit.

There are three doors to the left, three doors to the right, one door ahead, and one door behind him. Next to the meat pile is a small table and a small journal. What'll Springs do!?

Search the room further.
    - 2 (66.7%)

Favoring caution for once, Springs drops to all fours and skitters about the room like an anxious lizard. Poking his snout towards the six side doors suggests that they are occupied... by mean things. Some have snarls coming from them, angry foot-steps or just heavy breathing, filled with fey creatures that aren't very benevolent or magically friendly like the raised barbed tentacle silhouette of a Displacer Beast or the beady, glowing eyes of a Humanoid perched in the ceiling corner of it's room, the Underdark fiend called a Choker. The other rooms are too hard to see into... but the growls, clicks, clacks and other sounds convince Springs to shiver and dive back into the pile of offal. And it's a good thing too, as the Northern door swings open as he vanishes from sight! Springs slowly raises only his eyes from the delightfully stinky blood pile, mimicking the cool predatory stylings of Boss Bas.

Dr Quint stalks in, railing to a hunched over figure that stalks along behind him. It looks like... a tiny elderly man? Wearing an enormous red hat. Dr Quint seems to have one hand cupped to his ear and constantly speaks to or listens to it, random glows and sparks flying from it as he does so.

Dr Quint: "Well, if you're spotted Chadwick, you know when to strike! My agents will move in as soon as you provide the positioning! Don't screw this up, Dread! I don't care how good you are... trouble seems to be following those damned Fools!"

Tiny Man: "Hee... Haw... you are troubled, Quint. You know what I say..." Withdrawing it from thin air, the air around him bleeding in a reality-distorting crack the length of his awkwardly long and gangly arm, the man withdraws a crooked triple-jointed scythe with a dull, rusty blade. "No man, no problem."

Dr Quint: "Of course you'd say that! But this is bigger than that... it's not about mere body-count. Any dullard could raze Gateway with enough sell-swords. What's he to do when they get bored and turn on him!? No, mark my words, by the end of tonight, Dr Quint Orin Borre will be the only power worth mentioning in the Reaches! Ha ha! Ha! Haaaaaaheeeheee ho ho! Wooohohohohohohoho!"

Tiny Man: "Ho ho, hee haw, ho! Hrmm, haw haw!"

Springs can't help but narrow his eyes. How can two people be so bad at laughing? He'll have to lay low for now... Springs has the keys but busting everybody out just to get caught is pretty dumb, even for the likes of Moa.

Elsewhere...

Muscles looks up into the big tree at the center of the terrarium and pouts with a pleating "Hoooot..." His noble sentiments are not heeded as sitting atop the branch is the one denizen of the Not Ridiculously Dangerous Fey Creatures Terrarium that he has been unable to win over with his ceaseless love of hugging! The Grumpy Snail is a cat-sized lumpy brown snail with a grey-striped shell and a curly tail topped with little spikes. His eye-stalks are a bit over-developed to give him a permanent >:| expression at all times and he radiates negative energy. The Grumpy Snail is known to be very magical among all Wizardly Studies yet famously uncooperative in all aspects of harnessing that magic, even going so far as to escape from captivity or will itself out of existence upon death just to deny it's boons to enthusiastic Wizardly scholars!

Muscles looks down at his inventory and then up at the Grumpy Snail. What can Muscles do to win him over for the Big Antics coming up?

Use Lucky Coin.
    - 3 (75%)

Muscles hesitantly steps up to the base of the tree, pawing at his thick clump of neck-fur and head-cresting feathers. The Grumpy Snail glares downwards, radiating raw displeasure at Muscle's approach. Muscles produces his Lucky Coin and holds it up with both paws like a holy offering or an Elf acquiring a Vital Item, hooting hopefully.

The Grumpy Snail regards Muscles and the coin for a moment... then slithers down the length of the branch, clinging to it effortlessly and crawling down a straight vertical surface, and comes close enough to pick up the coin between it's er, eye-stalks, pinching it between it's angularly irritated eyebrows. It basks in the warmth of an item so filled with good shininess and great luck and looks to Muscles before passing the coin back.

>:[

|:[

Muscles hoots and claps his paws together! He picks up the Grumpy Snail and rushes over to the front of the terrarium holding it, pausing to set it on Moa's backside. Moa nods his head too many times and honks excitedly! It seems all the little fey creatures have gathered near a mound of dirt next to a small pool of water, the artificial lighting casting gleams across the surface.

SpongeBob SquarePants Production Music - Astronauts March

Muscles stands atop the mound and he gives it his all. He hoots, hems and hollars. He speaks from all-fours and sometimes he stands up for emphasis. He clucks, bu-gawks and chirps. He even manages a throaty little growl as he gestures dramatically at the door, calling upon his friends to stand ready for the signal! All of the animals rise up in cheering animal noises!

Elsewhere

Springs slips out of the offal pile after Dr Quint and the tiny little man(in an enormous hat) leave, sneaking quickly towards the South Door after witnessing them use the North to exit. He passes along a few angry creatures who bay at their bars from the side doors, and soon hei s heading down the creepy techno-organic halls of smooth metal and fey vines built into the rough stone of some older, cruder structures that Dr Quint's base seems to rest upon. The keys jingle gently in his jaws and Springs tightens his mouth grip to stop the noise. He's super serious. >:3

There isn't a choice to make at the end of this Muscles Adventure update and once again regular updating will have to wait as this thread syncs with other currently moving threads. Instead, I ask you to pick the soundtrack that will play when Muscles and friends make their big escape!

I guess we'll have to use both! Eventually!

Springs narrowly evades notice many times as he closes in on the Researcher side of the Terrarium. He ducks into a "laundry" basket which thankfully isn't a trap as none of the clothes inside it move and pops his eyes up Boss Bas style, watching the nearby Raggamoffyns lounging near the Terrarium door! He's trying to think of a clever way to move in when... a tiny elderly man in an enormous hat skips into the room, followed by a demure woman hovering in the air behind him on dragonfly wings, her body covered in protruding spider-like bits over a modest full-body teal blouse and black body-suit.

Gnome: "Intruders are approaching! Drop to the minimum! We're going to battle! Ha hem! He haw! He Hoo!"

Insect Woman: "Red, that's dull... have you heard from Willard yet?"

Most of the Raggamoffyns in the lab file out, actually disrobing from their casual "dress" and transforming into suits of armor they "pick up" from caches in the walls. The Gnome peers up at the woman, a mere 2 feet tall and easily dwarfed by her, and inappropriately laughs.

Gnome: "He died! Killed by heroes! Haaaaaaaaaaho!"

The Insect Woman double-takes and gawks at the Gnome! "No! No way! You dumbass! That's not true!" The Gnome also double-takes, then bellows so unexpectedly loudly that the room shakes and a small gale-force wind rips through it, making the remaining Nurse Uniform Raggamoffyns inexplicably try to keep their skirts down. "IT IS! The Gnome exhales several times and then his voice drops to normal volume.

Gnome: "Weren't they due back, humm heeh? With the boy, so we can speak to the old cow, ha ho?"

Insect Woman claps her hands to her face, little mandibles poking out of her bottom lips and her bangs on her forehead actually tiny little chitinous arms they help frame her eyebrows as she looks horribly distressed. "Th... then I'm not fighting! I have to go find Willard! AGHHH!" She zooms away and the Gnome just keeps laughing as he leaves, gathering the troops.

Springs finds this very interesting... he's almost ready to make his move! But then...

Elsewhere

Oh.. oh no! Muscles is being hauled out of the Terrarium by four of the remaining Nurse Raggamoffyns! They were talking about how he was brought in too quickly and wasn't decontaminated properly! He'd need...

A BATH!

Muscles is normally a gentle and loving creature, friend to every living thing. But when it comes to bath time, he becomes extraordinarily fussy and pushy, prone to leaving many a member of Fools-Errant knocked into the water basin or covered in little beak nips. And right now he's not behaving any differently, hooting and clucking the entire way until he's dumped by a herculean group effort into a cold iron crockpot with several long, thin copper tubes providing the water and other decontaminating elements. Muscles sits in the pool and simmers and fumes, being too small with arms too stubby to pull himself out of the massive pot.

Springs has his hands cupped to his cheeks in absolute terror. Everybody knows that making a mammal take an unwanted bath is the absolute worst, no fooling! This is it! The base staff is depleted by some mysterious call to arms and Muscles is in trouble! It's time to act!

Samurai Warriors OST - City Of Flowers

Springs dashes through the lab, using his spring-loaded movements to run past one of the Nurse Raggamoffyn's, flip her skirt, and then immediately spring-tail dash in a different angle by 90 or even 180 degrees, bouncing off tables and counters and boxes and all that sort of thing! Within moments he has caused an oddly arousing and comical scene as the Raggamoffyns attempt to hide their invisible modesty and then he dashes for the Cold Iron Crockpot! He grabs one of the knobs and flips it all the way to one side! Surely that will do something positive! Then he dashes off to use the keys to the Terrarium.

Muscles hoots. He hoots some more... he clucks. He bu-gawks. It's getting hot! He growls a little, it's cute, like an angry puppy. Then he feels it welling up inside him.... primordial anger... he's... taking... a.... baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaath! BOOOOOOM! The water pressure and the pipes burst, the magical decontaminants sending massive cracks up the sides of the crockpot as Muscles thrusts his arms out, hoot-roaring as best as he can for such a little guy! The super hot water has made his fur and feathers really poofy and the wave of water caused by the explosion drenches the Nurse Raggamoffyns, severely hampering their comfort and movement!

The rest of the Terrarium explodes out of the single doorway, stampeding through the lab as Muscles joins them, looking unusually clean and soft! The escape is on! No Fey Guardian is spared as the gentle Fey creatures rambunctiously raise havoc throughout the base, trying to find an exit... but instead they find one creature they can't roll over and around!

Colosso, the meanest Guard Blink Dog in the Lab! He shimmers out of reality and back into it 20 feet closer to the approaching stampede, barking loudly and scaring them into a full-scale riot halt, little Fey creatures bonking into each other's butts comically as the ones in front skid to a stop!

Dogs and cats are natural enemies; the guard dog will go berserk and the cat will effortlessly taunt it in a comical fashion. Because this is a cartoon.

Guys the natural enemy of a fey dog is a fey cat sheesh haen't you been reading the Pembrook thread?

Anyway

This whole bath thing could have gone a lot better for everyone with one simple addition:

A rubber squeaky toy makes bathtime better, even for owlbears.

especially for owlbears.

Bubbles the Flying Cat
    - 3 (42.9%)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Music- SM64 Slide Theme

Muscles holds his paws up to his face with a look of clear shock, but a gentle "mew!" clears the air as Bubbles, the Flying Fluff Cat gently drifts in over everybody's heads. She floats about 5 feet off the ground, two feet clear of Colosso's standing frame. He lets out a mighty BARK BARK BARK and stands on two legs to seize and maul her, but the force of his lunge creates a gentle breeze that lifts Bubbles out of his reach!

"Mew!"

BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK! What ensues is a back and forth as Bubbles lazily hops around the laboratory, Colosso in hot pursuit. Whenever he is about to get close Bubbles drifts to a stop and lets Colosso's overwhelming momentum create a gust of wind that sends her aerospherenamic fuzzy bubble self ahead of his menacing claws and big teeth. After a few rounds of this Colosso begins to get majorly frustrated, as any good pet is likely to if he becomes unable to ever actually claim his chew toy... Colosso turns to face the horde of fey again!

Bonk! Bubbles bobs across an adjacent lab table, pushing a thick glass beaker over to clonk Colosso on the head. This enrages him and he gives chase after Bubbles with renewed fervor! Muscles and friends split up...

Bubbles leads Colosso around a corner, where he crashes head first with a waiting head-bonk from Moa! Moa is built almost as large as Colossl himself and was readied against the charge, so he retreats with a sore noggin as Colossl sees stars for a moment, sprawling out on his belly as his head rings! This gives Mister Boots a chance to run along another one of the lab tables and, after briefly using his incredible power of literary to check the safety manual and settings, turn on a magi-crystal powered bunsen burner! He gently pushes it off the side of the table where it clatters over and lights Colosso's tail on fire!

Colosso runs around with many mighty whines, attempting and failing at least a half-dozen times to chase his own tail and do something about it! His whimpering and frustration mount as the fire is not particularly lethal, just very painful, his fur singing and stinking up the lab. Muscles pushes over the remains of the Bath Cauldron and douses the fire out, walking over to Colosso's front with his new friend The Grumpy Snail in his arms.

... Colosso presents his paw to Muscles, who gently shakes it! Colosso has joined Muscles and Friends!

Muscles hoots merrily to the rest of the fey critters and sets The Grumpy Snail on Moa's back! They're off again! The Fey Critter Horde rampages gently through Dr Quint's lab, trying to find a way out... it becomes harder and harder as they go, as it seems a state of war and probably news of the Fey Critter Horde have prompted a state of double emergency, many of the halls of the great mining facility being closed off by thick shutters made of Cold Iron that tire out any critters that try to open or attack it. Rounding one of many corners again, they come before a set of signs and a series of un-shuttered hallways. Mister Boots sits on Moa's head and Moa slowly raises it, allowing him to once again wield the awesome power of Reading to check the signs. Hmmm... Terrarium, Warehouse, Port, Power Chamber...

Muscles hoots to the others. He may be a simple country owlbear, but he can remember the things that matter. The rest of the animals look to him a bit forlornly, but Muscles hoots again and then beats his chest twice in a show of confidence. Springs stands up on his hind legs and salutes Muscles before taking command of the herd: they'll go towards the Port to try to find a ship or an open screen door or something.

Muscles drops to all fours and runs off towards the Power Chamber. Amongst all these new friends and wacky antics, he hasn't forgotten his original super brave goal. He's got to save that shy tree lady from that mean doctor, that giant tree, and that slimy thief guy.

A crosspost to the Spontaneous Fae Events thread.

SUDDENLY!

A small bear sized of fur and feathers charges down one of the side hallways, hooting and chirping as it gathers speed. It's heading straight for Red Crown! Red Crown is occupied flexing and appearing menacing as his form continues to heal and bulge with menacing new growth(and growths), his fantastic new ethereal green cap nearly formed. "This is the end, Dwarf... once I have yours... I'll be immortal anyway... what is one life-time?!" His gaunt, elderly face seems to be aging even more dramatically before your eyes, tightening and wrinkling further until it's nearly a hateful skull glaring at you from behind a tight, waxy sheen of greying flesh.

"HOOT! CHIRP CHIRP!!!" Muscles runs in from the side and valiantly hops about an inch off the ground to give his full running tackle extra oomph, delivering an audacious head-bump to Red Crown's left knee! This... does not move the Red Cap King in the least and Muscles lands in a sit next to him, looking up and blinking several times because his head hurts now. "... Hoot!" His little tail is twitching and his feathers are frayed, but somehow he is being much braver than you've ever seen him when this upset.

Red Crown guffaws. "Is this... your trump card!? HAAAA HAAAA HEEE HOOOOORRRR HEEE HEEEHOOOOOO! BAHAHAHAHAHA!" He seizes Muscles by the scruff of the neck with one hand. "HAARRR! HOOO!" And whirls around, casting the baby owlbear into the same capsule generating the rush of emerald power. Muscles waves his arms futilely before crashing directly into it and contracting the rush of mysterious power which crackles across him multiple times, electrocuting him like an exposed wire. Red Crown watches the spectacle, biting down on his fingernails because he can barely contain his glee at once again slaughtering an innocent creature. He turns to look at you, then back at the capsule as Muscles flops forward, landing on his belly... a smoldering black heap.

Returning from the Spontaneous Fae Events thread...

Muscles drops to all fours and takes off, waddling further into the sprawling airship docking warehouse. It seems to be connected to the mining facility at all floors, with flaming rubble and rippling arcs of green lightning annihilating the bio-organic or magi-mechanical parts of the laboratory built on top. All of the giant warpwood insects and ships seem to be crushed, on fire or otherwise inoperable. Muscles bravely runs down a freight ramp!

Cave Story 3D music - Scorching Back

At the bottom of the ramp is a wide platform that is beginning to creak loudly, the metal groaning as the debris falling upon it begins to render it too heavy. The ramp Muscles is running along is built adjacent to the mountain wall, with the platform sticking out... the extended bit begins to bend and fold! Muscles lets out a panicked hoot and runs along the wall a bit further before shouldering open a set of heavy doors, the sounds of collapse following him... the hall is lit with green flame mingling amongst the regular fire, the two dancing about one another but the green drifting to the top of the crackling waves of heat. Muscles hastily makes his way down the tunnel, the doors to his side broken open by disaster or hand-held weapons... or locked shut with piles of rock pressed against the cracked windows.

Rounding the next corner, Muscles come to a flooded hallway leading into a wide-open foyeur! Somewhere it seems that the ceiling, walls and floors have begun to sink... and the water is much deeper than it appears! Summoning his power of being part-bear, Muscles wades into the water until it would come up over his head and then begins to swim forward, looking from side to side nervously. ... He hears something! Muscles doggie-paddles over to the side of the flooded hallway and sees Moa with his neck trapped in a ring of six-plastic(a rare and magical material) tube-frames! Muscles uses his mighty talons to gently clip the ring around Moa's neck and helps him right himself in the water. Moa gives a Honk of Gratitude! The two swim to the end of the hallway and continue onward, charging through some halls that seem to be covered... in blood!

The two round a corner and come to a fork in the road... KA-BOOOM!!!!!! The left fork collapses and hooting and honking they take the right fork. The two come across the one door forward, but it seems to be stuck with a small pile of debris behind it... working together with arms of muscle and head of iron, Muscles and Moa crash through the door after some concentrated Strength checks and come into the Dangerous Fey Creature Holding Pen! All of the pens seem to be tightly locked... one or two have been opened by force, one simply torn apart... the other blasted apart, the bars still glowing. At the end of the room is another doorway, but an angry-looking mound of vegetation is blocking the door, waving upwards with barbed tentacles at a cornered and desperately mewing Bubbles!

Muscles and Moa look to one another, then to the gargantuan shambling mound. It's really big! And it doesn't look tasty at all! Muscles looks around... then spies one of the locked cells, the only one with a living creature in it. Muscles chirps twice to Moa, who shakes his head spastically but Muscles shoulders past him and picks himself up for a two-foot waddle up to the cage. He looks inside... a panther's cold eyes look back... and Muscles strains against the door with all his might, breaking it at the hinges! He pulls it open a crack and lets out a low ursine growl.

The Displacer Beast(Shuffles) vaults out of the cage, glares at Muscles, glares at Moa, vibrates into a pack of 4 half-tangible images of itself... then whirls around and tears into the Shambling Mound from behind, ferocious claws, fierce fangs and a set of four barbed tentacle making swift work of something that's merely a bit of plant-life. Bubbles gently deflates and drifts down, landing on Shuffles head as a kitten-sized bubble-cat.

"Mew."

Shuffles looks shrewd and assumes a stalking run forward through the door, not bothering to meet Muscles' or Moa's eyes. He's simply too cool to care what they think. Muscles and Moa take off after him! The next set of hallways are a chaotic mess... the remaining Raggamoffyns are either fighting with the more dangerous wild fey creatures or trying to clear a path with spells and machines. Muscles, Moa, Bubbles and Shuffles sneak along between the battles, the chaos of the quaking structure and the random bursts of elemental destruction making it easier than it looks... at the end of the hall, they discover a few lines of hastily set traps. Mister Boots is stuck in a one-way cage, oinking pleadingly. Moa headbutts the side of it until it collapses and then lets Mister Boots run up his head and neck to sit on his back. They crash through the next doorway as the battles behind them come to a feverish end... the facility begins to warp and collapse!

The last room is the bottom of the massive ship dock! There seems to be... one ship! Most of the fey creatures are on it, with Springs scampering around the dock area, rifling through boxes of tools and parts in a tizzy. The Grumpy Snail sits on the railing of the boxy-shaped merchant vessel, glaring disapprovingly at Springs! Muscles and friends run up to them and exchange a series of growls, meows, hoots, chirps, clucks, grunts and squeals, and then they band together! Muscles sets Mister Boots with the Grumpy Snail and the two head into the ship's cockpit. They come back out with a book that Mister Boots begins to read, Grumpy Snail dictating his instructions to the others!

Muscles sniffs around the dock area for a bit before discovering the remains of Byss Sincent's dodgy little ship. He smashes a few nearby crates and tears a storeroom door off it's hinges, then hoots merrily to the others as he walks out carrying... the Dryad's Sapling! It seems she is too scared of the current disaster to stray out of her tree, but Muscles gently carries the sapling over to the ship and gets it aboard before helping the others.

Muscles and Moa realign one of the engines! Bubbles carries a tax of essential atmospheric gas up to the ship by inflating to the size of a car! Shuffles helps patch a line of canvas lying adjacent to the ship! Springs and Colosso herd the fey creatures onto the vessel! Mister Boots and Grumpy Snail begin the launch protocols! Bubbles deflates a bit and drops down to the roof of the ship with a meow and Shuffles rests patiently on the deck, preferring to not bother with the rest of the tamer creatures below decks. Moa honks excitedly and Springs runs around in circles snapping at Muscles heels as he waddles onto the ship! It's time to launch!

...

...

...

The gas billows out... the atmosphere begins to form... but the ship isn't moving! Rumble rumble rumble! Quake! It seems to be stuck on something! Muscles lets out a panicked cluck as a gout of green fire and bolts rockets out of the side of the dock... everything tilts... the entire facility is about to collapse! With a great heave, Muscles drops to all fours and throws himself off the side of the ship, landing with a little quake of his own! He whirls around and rises to both feet, then shoulders into the ship with all his mighty!

Grrrr!

Hooottt!!

Hrrnnnghhhhh!!!

He's doing it! The ship is beginning to rise at the front end as it dislodges itself from it's bad position wedged into the corner of the dock, wing pinned between at the corner wall. Muscles sweats and feels really hungry but he keeps pushing, determined to...

BOOOOOOOM!

The ship is cast forward by the intense destruction, as well as... Muscles, who drifts into the cold vacuum of space.

He... he's flying again... but it feels worse this time.... very cold... Muscles... spins in place... then drifts to a halt, only twirling slowly, letting out a Cluck before... he can't breath, so he just holds it in like during a bath time. He... he can't really see or hear anything. Maybe there's the catastrophic green-red glow of the facility collapsing into a Fey energy paradox somewhere above... beneath... him? But... no sign... of his friends... no sign of... fey creatures... or Fools-Errant.

Muscles begins to close his eyes, feeling very tired.

He did a good job.

...

...

...

Chomp. Chomp! Moa and Springs bite into Muscles generous rear end with beak and teeth as hard as they can, Springs with his tail wrapped around the railing, Moa hanging over the side with his comically large flipper feet pinned against the rail, they both struggle to right themselves and pull Muscles aboard. The ship is flying somehow and has an atmosphere bubble, but is tilting dangerously. They strain and strain and strain... their necks begin to ache... but... Muscles is too heavy!

"HEAVE HOR" A pair of massive branch-hands seize Moa and Springs and pull them off the railing, reeling Muscles in as easily as pulling in a length of rope. The three are pulled off their feet a little too quickly and fly backwards as the ship rights itself, assuming a smooth and steady flight. They clonk against Willard's super-wide frame, dealing no damage and landing in front of him, eyes spinning. Muscles shakes his head back and forth and takes in some air as he gapes up at the tree-trunk treant.

Willard holds up a box full... of delicious food and sweet spiced rums! It's just one of dozens they find in the ship's hold! A weird-looking girl with long black hair and bangs made of chitinous moving spider-legs peeks up over the side of Willard's head, resting inside of his empty tree-trunk body. She rolls her eyes at the new animals, takes a bottle and sits back down, poofing out of sight and resting in Willard.

Muscles, Moa and Springs look to each other... then grab some food! Everybody cheers! It's a party! Up above, the ship has righted itself because the atmospheric gas has coalesced into a huge bubble around... Bubbles, who is draped in the canvas and is now the size of a small blimp! Mister Boots and the Grumpy Snail sit at the controls of the vessel, setting a course... for Gateway!

Kirby's Dream Land Credits music

It will be a long voyage, but they're well-stocked and should arrive by the start of the next week... when they land at their chosen destination with a ship full of fey critters, Miss Elizabeth Duval makes this face:

Muscles and friends land the vessel next to Boss Bas' pond and disembark, Muscles proudly hooting as he carries the Dryad's Sapling back to Miss Duval's house. The shy little spirit manifests as a feminine green-skinned spirit long enough to give Muscles a kiss on the cheek, which makes his neck-feathers curl. :> *blush*

Good job, Muscles! That's the end of Muscles Adventure #3!
