My mother's friend's daughter came out when they visited.
My mother came home and told me she's surprised I wasn't gay. And then invited me to a mother daughter antique shopping party.

Surprised... or disappointed?  :wat:

Went out to dinner with both my new boyfriend and the guy I broke off entanglements with for him. And everyone involved was pretty okay with it.

There was no unnecessary loss of life before or after the dining experience.

Was driving around downtown, and noticed that the car ahead of me had a plush of the Adventure Time dog, its arms chained to the bumper and its feet dragging the ground. Immediately before that I saw a low-riding pickup with the plate "GAND4LF".

Not sure where else to put this, so:

My father just told me he bought a couple of guns.

Why do I care?  I don't really have as hard a stance on gun ownership as you might think*, but the dude's always been kind of a wimp.  He's not the kind of person who would be comfortable having the things around, so he's either getting paranoid, is WAY more depressed than I thought, or is consciously trying to take another bite of this trendy-conservatism thing he's adopted.

* My current, non-commital viewpoint is "You can own, carry and even load the things if you want, but there's a mandatory jail sentence for ever firing it in the direction of another human being, even if on accident or in self defense."

Maybe a gun range opened up near his house and all his friends are going, so he doesn't want to be left out.

Just had about an hour where everything smelled like chocolate cake. There was no chocolate cake in evidence. The other morning cigarettes wouldn't stop tasting exactly like asparagus. Earlier this week I was completely convinced that my name starts with J. This sort of thing has been happening since forever, but I still wonder if I'm having shitloads of little micro-strokes every few days.

Television has taught me that those are symptoms of a brain tumor.

This has isn't anything even remotely new, so unless it's a ridiculously patient tumor I don't actually think that's it. Funny you should mention, but I had a scare about that when I was a kid. Had a shitload of MRIs done about twenty years ago, for these and other reasons. They did actually turn up a crazy web of extra veins in my left parietal lobe, which is responsible for sensory integration, visual spatial skills, and number relations. Which might have something to do with the weird sensory crap and a touch of dyscalculia, but I literally test way the fuck off the scale with visual-spatial stuff, and I'm great with formulae and algorithms, though I can't add 2 and 2 without getting 5 half the time. The structures weren't doing anything weird and nothing moved around in the years between scans, so whatever's going on is probably harmless. It was mentioned that they're the sort of thing that can account for learning disabilities but, just... haha. No. Let's just leave those in there then. I wasn't all that keen on getting my skull bolted in place and filled with gamma rays, anyway. And I'm kind of tickled that I apparently have a weird mutant brain.

The emergence of a new mutant power, maybe?

At least mind lasers might be a semi-legit excuse to wear sunglasses all the time.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple lines of work where having everything smell like chocolate cake would definitely count as a superpower.
