Someone with some sort of degree argued that true intelligence should be measured by an entity's ability to breach its containment.

Miracleman #1 is out. It has two of the Alan Moore short-issues, followed by a bit of background, two of the old Mick Anglo stories (which quite capture the Captain Marvel 'science as magic' bit the Silver Age of comics would go on to perfect) and some tidbits from a meeting between Quesada and Mick Anglo that, while it may smack of WE SURE OWN THIS COPYRIGHT NOW gives a nice insight to how relaxed the whole thing was back in 1950. Just some British chaps, drinking wine in the mornings and cloning Captain Marvel for a bit of cash.

I guess Miracleman also mirrors the comic industry in that way: Something that used to be a lark, but ends up weighted and crumbling under its suddenly ascribed importance.

Alan Moore is not credited, which is a bit confusing on the credits list when you have "Story by: THE ORIGINAL WRITER". Still, all the other artists and writers are carefully credited.

Overall, a good presentation for a comic based on the deconstruction of a relic, which has gone on to be a relic itself. Pity He Who Will Not Be Named won't be able to comment on it further than expletives shouted from a window.

Well, at least in this case overly aggressive, self-important characters with terrible lines will be faithful to the source material.

I dunno about that, but last I heard she's top-tier.  Supposedly they're tooling her down a bit for ultra?

Also, unless something changed, I thing Oro going full out is still the strongest World Warrior.

Is Street Fighter 3 canon, or some bizarre side universe where street fighters are X-Men?

Good evening, friends!

My Santa duties have gone somewhat neglected because, while I thought I'd assembled a worthy selection of gifts for my chaps, the remarkable contents of the two packages I received combined with the startling revelations contained within this thread made me begin to second-guess myself. I wound up scouring my residence for overlooked treasures, as well as the homes of a few overburdened friends. Tomorrow, I mail two packages to two neglected little brontoforumites, and then I shall post the great unveiling of the gifts which I have received from Zaratustra and someone who did a very good job of concealing their identity, as I couldn't find a note or name in the second package. So: thanks again, I'm sorry, and let's look forward to a happy Christmas post-script!

Apparently Alan Moore has this massive hate-on for Grant Morrison, too, because he spends a good third of the interview trying to rag on him.

Brits, man.

Although Morrison has made it extremely easy to hate him, what with deciding the future is a spaceship/convention center shaped like his bald head.

IN OTHER NEWS:

It's really weird to read Cataclysm, because Galactus blundering into the Ultimate universe means they now have to use terms like 'energy signatures' with a straight face.

No doubt having holo seals on all rares and mythics on Base Set 2015 onwards is related.

RUMOR: It's Sarai Kurosawa, Ibuki's schoolmate (all Japanese schoolgirls have street fighter training) from the UDON comics.

Fits all the existing info, PLUS she has a Street Fighter x Tekken model, which seems to be the guiding principle in picking characters right now.

Probably the whole Todd McFarlane/Rob Liefeld craze? Turns out that was entirely in-code, imagine that.

The episode was interesting, although it broke its own rules at the end (the Doctor just plain out lies about having a plan despite the whole 'truth field' stuff) and the fact the story is the Basic Hero Plot #3, which is even more prevalent than the so vaunted hero's journey:

1) The hero is given a choice between two negative consequences (Have all innocents in Trenzalore die, or reignite the Time War).
2) The hero finds a third alternative that avoids the negative consequences through personal sacrifice (Stay on Trenzalore and save ten generations of Trenzalorians by maintaining a stalemate; the Doctor knows it's his last regeneration and this planet will be his tomb and such dramatic very anxiety)
3) Because the hero has been so selfless in sacrificing themselves, they are miraculously given back what they sacrificed and more (thirteen new lifes oh boy)

(Basic Hero Plot #2 is a character coming back just in time to save the hero, basic hero plot #1 is the villain turning into a snake)

And all of it is done in a dramatic fashion enough that you forget to ask why, for example, ol' Doc just doesn't evacuate the rest of the population on his Tardis. Hell, arguing a Doctor Who episode is like trying to find a solution to the omnipotence/omniscience/omnibenevolence problem.
