Wh.

What?

I haven't watched the Simpsons in years.  Did the family spontaneously grow while I wasn't looking?

It's an episode from 1995.

There are girls having babies who weren't around for that.

Oh.

...Like I said, I haven't watched the show in YEARS.

Like, seriously, the last episode I can remember catching was the episode where Michael Jackson had the guest voice.

Where he played an overweight mental patient who manages to convince Homer that he IS Michael Jackson.

One scene I remember is after Homer is let out of the mental hospital...you know what?  FUCK IT.  I'll find the episode on youtube and post it here.  RIGHT FUCKING NOW.  DON'T NOBODY POST ANYTHING WHILE I'M AWAY.

I like all the little snippets of dance from Michael's videos, especially the Thriller Dance, and the sampled "ee-hee!"

Like, seriously, the last episode I can remember catching was the episode where Michael Jackson had the guest voice.

That episode is from when George Bush was President.

The first one.

I think what he's trying to say is that not seeing a Simpsons episode since 1991 isn't a big loss.

I've been buying the boxed sets very slowly.
I'm trying to pinpoint where exactly it stops being good.
I figure as long as I'm missing an episode that I remember enjoying, I should keep going.

I'm trying to pinpoint where exactly it stops being good.

In a rather curious turn of events, the show's long decline began around the time of Phil Hartman's death.

EDIT: For me, it would have to be the ninth season. Episodes like "The Principal and the Pauper," "Lisa the Skeptic," "Das Bus," and "Natural Born Kissers" were an indication of the direction the show was going, and it wasn't a good one. "Lisa the Simpson" was particularly disappointing, because it painted Bart not as a somewhat intelligent but misguided kid, but rather as someone who is genetically predisposed towards idiocy. "Natural Born Kissers" was just... unfunny. It wasn't bad so much as there was nothing to it.

You might also remember him as Troy McClure.

And, let's be honest, he would have been Zapp Brannigan.

You're right.

Unrelated: He played Ahnuld's smarmy asshole neighbor who was hitting on Ahnuld's wife in Jingle All the Way.

We love Phil Hartman so much, but he was in such shitty movies.

One of the other comments I've heard about the Simpsons is that some think that the jump-the-shark moment came when Conan O'Brian stopped doing any writing on episodes.

I don't think you can pin it down to something that precise, but it's an interesting observation all the same.
