The MM5 one looks a hell of a lot better, in fact; it has background and texture and more detailed tiles, while the MM9 shot looks more like Bubble Man's stage.

I think Nor's right; this screams "early alpha mockup".  I doubt this shot will exist in the final game.

But still and all, if you're doing a mockup, mixing the stage design of Mega Man 5 with the tiles of Mega Man 2...well, the best comparison I can think of is Homer's "miracle hybrid with the loyalty of a cat and the cleanliness of a dog."

But Mega Man 5 had a lot of GOOD level design!  I mean hell, it had gravity specific side-scrolling more than fifteen years before Super Mario Galaxy.

Oh right.  I'm one of those crazies who enjoyed Mega Man 5.

So I guess I'm the only one here who thinks the simpler graphics in the MM9 shot actually look better than the flat, overdetailed mess of MM5?

In the end, I don't think that's what's most important; if MM9 were about graphics, well, there's probably no need to finish that sentence.

But given the emphasis on stage design...well, that's Wave Man's stage, isn't it?  Fuck Wave Man's stage.

More to the point, it is implied that there is a part where you ride bubbles up through a series of spike-lined ceilings.

I'd say it's no more INHERENTLY evil than the instant death traps throughout 2 and 3 (a recent Parish post reminded me that it's not just Quick Man's level, even Air Man's was a fucking bastard the first dozen or more times I tried it).  But yeah, it could very well be more evil in practice.

I don't care how evil it is, I just don't think it sounds very fun.  I can just imagine the damn bubbles crawling up slooooowly and demanding that you make a dozen or more flawless jumps during the whole scenario.  We'll see, I guess.

You should play my Cut Man level.  Imagine needing to wall-jump off of those bubbles at just the right time to reach the ladder you needed!

That sounds like the opposite of a level I should play!

If anyone brings up Knynjacorp I swear I will flick you between the eyes.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36512.html

The placement of that first bolt suggests either slide or some sort of grabber item later on.

Also, both bolts' placement, and the fact that I don't see any enemies dropping them, suggests these are MM8-style unique bolts, not MM7-style regular-item bolts.  Which is some cause for concern, given my earlier comments on how 8 makes you choose between upgrades and conveniences.

Quote from: Dork in the trailer
I believe this is, um, Hard Man right now.

Yeah, I'm sure that the Robot Master that looks like a giant plug with plugs for hands and when he barks he shoots plugs at you is really just Hard Man from MM3, in a surprising cameo appearance!

The placement of that first bolt suggests either slide or some sort of grabber item later on.

Like Niku said, you'll probably be able to buy the slide (and/or a grabber item) at the store. Which brings up another problem: collecting bolts to buy abilities that let you collect more bolts.  :painful:

Oh, also, apparently the Capcom staff at E3 were wearing t-shirts with that image.

Must. Get.  :cake:
