Does EA leave the copy protection in their Steam releases? Take 2 were that stupid when they released Bioshock on Steam, which is a big reason why I feel good about sticking with the console version. But that shit needs to stop.

Valve's grip on the heart of PC gaming said to have visibly tightened.

I...

I don't mind:pop:

In other Steam news (ALL HAIL OUR OUR GASEOUS OVERLORDS), Aquaria is 16$ until the end of the year. Is that game still good in retrospect? I played the demo a bit, but it was like 30 bucks back then and I didn't bother.

$16, you say? I might be jumping on Aquaria quite soon.

I'd go for it. It sounds like they will be releasing it with some new artwork or something, too. And giving them money will hopefully fund the sequel they better fucking come out with.

Wait... I think I just thought of something to get a friend for Christmas. :perfect:

I was kind of hoping to see it on XBox Live at some point.

One step forward, at least one step back.

Then the boycott continues.

Edit: WAITAMINUTE, the other EA games' pages don't have those notifications. Furthermore, digging around their respective forums yields evidence suggesting they are clean.

Could it be?

I've read multiple sources saying that EA titles on Steam do not have 3rd party DRM.

There was even a post on the official Steam forums saying "Steam itself is the only form of DRM on these titles".

(and honestly, I think systems like Steam are how DRM SHOULD be.  This is great and proves it's one of the few methods that works, and is not awful, and works because it is not awful.)

Except for the parts where it is awful.  Like how it's awful.  The only thing Valve has on EA is that the mandatory software they require you to install to verify your purchases and activate them online doesn't interfere with core processes.

It says right on the games' Steam pages that Crysis and Crysis Warhead both come packed with SecuROM.

So EA is lying... one way or another.

Well, at least they're covering their status quo.

This is less lying and more nobody gives a shit about updating detail/info pages.

Or Crysis is the sole exception for whatever reasons.

EA didn't develop Crysis, they just published it; I believe in that case, it fell to the developer to prepare a Steam version, and they didn't.

Crysis was on steam with DRM way before EA decided they wanted to put all of their games on steam, which is why they're saying that their stuff is DRM free, but Crysis still has it. They're too lazy to go back and get Valve to fix it for them, or they just don't care.
