I'd be jazzed if each of these games just took a step backwards chronologically forever.  I wanted to do an RPG series like that once; the first one takes place millions of years after the destruction of Earth, then keeps stepping back to events referenced in the previous game until you finally get to the dragons at the beginning of the universe and find out what the hell the final boss in all the other games is actually supposed to be.

You should play Live-A-Live.  Start with the Far Future chapter and work your way backwards chronologically and it even matches up perfectly.

Whoa, just checked out some gameplay vids on this thing and it looks pretty sweet. Have you played it? Worth the time?

Well, assuming you mean the SNES RPG by Squaresoft.  The "Gameplay" actually isn't too remarkable, as combat is infrequent and while interesting, nothing too revolutionary.  The real appeal of it is the story and settings (and music).

And yes, I've played the entire thing and would reccomend it to any fan of RPGs.  It's not very long, either, only a few hours.  A small collection of mini-RPGs.

Yeah, it's good. Some bits are really asinine if you're a completionist but I still recommend it.

I'll probably give it a shot, looks fun! I have no problem with RPGs light on combat and heavy on story - love, and still love, Ion Storm's adventurey Anachronox - and the fact that it came out the same year as FF6 gives me hope the story is a step up from the joyless RPG standard of the early 90's.

Well, assuming you mean the SNES RPG by Squaresoft.

Er, what else would I mean?

My constant fear of anything I do becoming popular and getting massive amounts of gay porn and ridiculous shipping is a large part of why I never do anything.

Wait, that's why I never want anything I do to be popular.

A series of stories I've been very, very slowly working on for a decade is similar to this. It takes place on a world that has had odd things happen to it in the distant past, and each story focuses on a different part of the world and how it is currently coping with the remnants of the bizarre past. Then eventually, the final story would be about the ancient being that was the cause of everything and what happened to him.

...Ever since I started another math course last week, the creative half of my brain has been working extra hard... I'd like to take advantage of that, but I'm getting too much damn homework.

Post the first chapterrr

What, of my thing? All my time working on them has only amounted to pages and pages of notes, maps, story concepts, character information, and so on. I've probably got several attempts at a chapter one but I hate them all.

Forgot to mention the obvious ending: You swing back to the very end of the universe and finally get to see what transpired due to your actions in the very first game, which is of course "You fucked up everything."

That's one of those things you have to force yourself into completing. ESPECIALLY if it picks up an audience.

:serious: I'm looking at you, George R.R. Martin.

George R R Martin is not your bitch.

Okay, so, aside from the whip and katana, it looks like she can use every weapon with both her hands and feet.

And, also, of course, she has a whip. Why wouldn't she.

Her clothes come off every time she finishes a combo.

Really think SEGA ought to finally stop fielding every idea that comes across the boardroom table.

That's because she uses her hair as clothes, and also for the large constructs in her combos.  Ain't enough for both, apparently.

Rocket launcher shoes!  For all those times when you've thought to yourself, "I want to hit that guy over there with explosives, but I don't want to have to put my sandwich down first."
