Man, I have seen some Star Wars at ultra high def.

I can honestly say that the movie is not improved by making Carrie Fisher's cocaine-induced facial lines visible.

Star Wars is coming out on Blu-Ray!

Is everyone excited!? :D

No, not really.

Wow. That was weird. I was trying to be humorously facetious and all "hells yeah". I suppose my overwhelming apathy towards all things Star Wars that doesn't involve Bioware or Genndy Tartakovsky these days was just too much for my sense of sarcasm.

I give it about 50/50.

The trouble is that it's become so difficult to distinguish made-up George Lucas crazy from actual George Lucas crazy.

I heard in the new release Greedo shoots first, but then later Han finds a time machine and goes back to that moment to shoot Greedo

You know, I liked New Hope when I first saw it. I thought the other two were alright.
After that it all went down hill. I haven' like anything Star Wars since I was like 9. And every year or two this shit happens again and I feel a bit better about that.

I actually checked that URL, to make sure it wasn't a larger joke.

I can only chuckle at the continuing divergence: Lucas goes one way and sanity strolls on down the other hall.

Makes me even gladder that I managed to get the DVD version of the original unedited movies. I wonder if that will be a package deal in Blu-Ray like it was for DVD.

... why doesn't Lucas just up and remake/reboot the original Trilogy? It's not like the Expanded Universe doesn't get retconned all the time, anyway. Then he could just do whatever the hell he wants to, no ramifications.

I would actually support that, if as much of the original cast was included as possible.  I would love to see Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher as they are today trying to do the movie over again.

Nah, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford both hate Star Wars too much these days.

... That said, I think Mark Hamill would make for a killer re-imagined Darth Vader's voice.

Seriously, think about it for minute. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

While he would, that's not what I want.  The remake should be a goddamn farce.

What gets me is that the like 500 different versions of Star Wars releases seems to imply the desire for quick cash-ins, but actually going back and editing and doing CGI work is more trouble than it should be worth.

Maybe Star Wars fans are just stupid?

I'd say DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER, only it's really more like an arms race of stupid between Lucas and the fans.

What gets me is all the billboards around advertising Star Wars 3D.

This release is not in 3D.

So what you have here is another rerelease that people are going to buy while being told that there's going to be another rerelease coming.

So yeah, I think it really, honestly, without irony is not an exaggeration to say that Lyrai would buy an empty box with "Star Wars" emblazoned on it.

I can only chuckle at the continuing divergence: Lucas goes one way and sanity strolls on down the other hall.

I don't believe Lucas had any involvement with these updates other than to sign the dotted line on the contract.  I do believe, however, that whoever decided to dub that in knew exactly what they were doing - either it's some very disgruntled or very amused LA crony who knows that [see above] or else they believe that the fans' uproar over seemingly minor changes (to those who don't understand the full context of those changes) is the secret behind its continuing mystique.
