That's more episodes than the Anne of Green Gables anime.

I've never quite understood why that series/character are so popular in Japan.

Quote from: Wikipedia
Anne is described as bright and quick, eager to please, talkative, and extremely imaginative.

Plop her in a magical setting and she's a Miyazaki heroine.

I ain't smelling it. To me it's more like, the first time you open a music CD case after you unwrap it, so kinda print-y plastic-y I guess.

American $100 bills could smell like fry oil or corn syrup or triple bacon double cheeseburgers on a bun made of grilled cheese sandwiches, and I'd never know. ::(:

Yes but only because that's where we traditionally store it.

Yeah, heard about that on NPR some years ago.  The idea was pretty much "Fuck the chain of command, if the Russkies bomb us we want SOMEBODY to be able to pull the trigger."

It really is amazing we avoided nuclear annihilation.

I can only imagine this line being spoken in Buck Turgidson's voice.

I probably wasn't consciously hearing his voice in my head when I wrote it, but yes, now that you mention it I'm sure that's exactly what I was thinking of.

The most ridiculous thing about Dr. Strangelove is that disclaimer at the beginning about how it could never happen.

Hey, I wanna try this now!

I've heard about these. They apparently make lemons into the most delicious things on the planet.

Just how dependant the crucial early part of the Civil Rights movement was on Harry Belafonte's money. Man, it turns out Harry bankrolled a huge part of the movement.

Quote
Belafonte supported the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and was one of Martin Luther King Jr.'s confidants. He provided for King's family, since King made only $8,000 a year as a preacher. Like many other civil rights activists, Belafonte was blacklisted during the McCarthy era. He bailed King out of Birmingham City Jail and raised thousands of dollars to release other civil rights protesters. He financed the Freedom Rides, supported voter registration drives, and helped to organize the March on Washington in 1963.
