Okay, new dorks.

Started off with this old figure as a base.

He was basically a "small" dragon-man (called a Neophant) from the first set ever. He was useful as a small fighter and point-filler to round out a dragon-man ("Draconum") faction army (most Draconum were and are big, expensive figures), but which had become mostly obsolete. Time for an update! A friend made some updated dial designs and I took it from there.

I stripped the stock paint off a pair with acetone, then went to work:

For the first fellow, the straps are layered electrical tape, with some metal trim. The round stud bits are finishing nail heads I snipped off, the pauldron on the first fellow was a hollow filigreed metal bead that I cut into quarters, layered, and added a neck-guard fin from styrene card. His sword was an old spearhead, with a nail for a pommel and the grip was simply filled in with epoxy. For the second fellow, the scimitar blade was done in styrene card as well, with a greenstuff hilt (that hilt is not my best work :P ). The belly plate was a flat bead, the jewel and belt studs were just epoxy drops, and the belt itself is more electrical tape. The fur is greenstuff.

Here are the finished versions (click to resize):

Question, Mongrel: Do you build your Terrain for yourself or do you sell it?

Ps. Here's a good light box solution: http://www.digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent

I normally just build it for myself. It takes way too long to build this stuff for it to be commercially viable in any way.

Hmm. Didn't I send you one of those?  Wasn't he red?

Anyway, that is a killer touchup to the figure.  You used acetone on plastic?  How did you go about this without melting features off the figure?

The plastic that Mage Knight guys are made of is sort-of acetone resistant. So long as you don't get too crazy (and let the figure FULLY dry after you use the acetone on it) it's okay. I don't dunk figures or anything, I use swabs dipped in the stuff. It's more labour-intensive, but it's really the only way to do it properly.

Okay, so you're surgically applying acetone, letting it eat through the top layer, and then scrubbing it off?  Good god, you have such patience for a dead game that you have turned around and made fun for you.

Don't let the gaming industry see you doing this.  They will unleash the Slanneshi Neckbeardian, who is 95% beard and neck.  You will not like how he thinks of your game, you will ignore him, but he'll never go away, even when you close your eyes.

Are you sure it's Slaanesh and not Nurgle? I mean, the way some of those dudes handle personal hygiene...

What's really bad is a guy I know and I are gonna start making small expansion sets.

We probably won't physically MAKE all the figures, just do up dials. But as you can see we do actually bring some of our creations to life.

Slanneshi Neckbeardian

Neckbeards are followers of Nurgle.

They are easily confused, the Slaneshi one is publicly sexually awkward in addition to socially awkward.  If you so much as mention a girl, they get that really strange gleam in their eye because girls are yet another game that can be won and they expect the prize to always be a submissive slave girl of fantasy art legend.  The Nurgle variety has more emphasis on the rank smells and picks at his scabs during the game, flicking them onto the table.

And for completeness...

The Khornite Neckbeardian is that guy who upon loosing throws dice and slams his arm in a sweep across the table, forcing your figures and his own hurdling toward the floor, all the while stomping about getting so very angry that you cheated him by playing fairly.

The Tzeentch Neckbeardian may or may not be in possession of a Disc of Tzeentch flying mount, flamethrower arms, and a morphic body.  They appear exactly as the Tzeentch Flamer as per the codex, with the added bonus of being complete pricks and laughing insanely as they finish moving every piece on the table.

More dorks!

Here's the before picture:

It really doesn't get much more butt-ugly than those guys.

And here's what I replaced them with (a Warmahordes Cygnar Rangers' squad)

Mongrel I don't suppose you'd be interested in painting my entire chaos army, would you?
