So, James Urbaniak explained the irregularity in this episode.
Apparently Brock's segments are moving forward from the end of last season to the present; the Ventures' segments are intermixed, moving backward from the present to the end of last season. More or less.
Which is obvious, really, but it's nice to be able to see the structure for what it is without having to assemble the pieces in your head.

I liked this episode a lot more on my second viewing.

Just finished watching this.
Loved it.  Especially the whole
comic book depreciation.
That was well done. The
Marvel stuff
was cool too. Added a nice touch and call back to the Venture's roots in that sort of thing.
What was up with Brock's eyes? They've never been straight up blue like that. Every shot they were blue. Is that supposed to signify how his eyes are wide open now or something?

God damn it, Teletoon won't run it until Saturday, the web stream won't work on a US proxy, and my  :yarr: efforts turn up just one dead torrent.  HOW DO YOU CANADIANS DEAL WITH THIS???

My pet theory is that the total lack of official commentary on a Shirt of the Week Club means that something big is in the works -- like an action figure club. My other theory is that
now that we have this conspiracy on our hands, they're actually going to do something with ORB. Before now, I assumed that it was never going to be referred to again, just another element of the show meant to troll the viewers. Like the moppets.

It's been a while since I've rewatched season 3, so this is all vague conjecture. OSI and the Guild of Calamitous Intent are new organizations, right? Relatively new I mean, not like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen-style Guild that old timey Venture and Oscar Wilde were in.

Nevertheless, the new groups both trace back to the Guild; a Venture is present, they enforce order, but also held the seeds of great villainy -- Tesla and the Avon ladies attacked the Guild blimp, after all. Unless there's room for a new, formerly unmentioned secret society, that's where my money is.

On the other hand, I may just be setting myself up for 8 episodes of Bud Manstrong.

Also this episode: Venture's time machine is mentioned. It could just be a throwaway reference to Return to the House of Mummies, Part II or a comment on Venture's decorating habits. I'm not so sure though, especially in light of the fractured chronology that we saw. Chekov's gun and all that.
What was up with Brock's eyes? They've never been straight up blue like that. Every shot they were blue. Is that supposed to signify how his eyes are wide open now or something?

Quote from: Jackson Publick
No, it's kind of an intentional mistake. I got so peeved that somehow Brock, who had always had blue eyes in the show, somehow lost his blue eyes in the model revisions we made last season and I didn't catch it till all the animation was back. So we gave him his baby blues back, and we kind of overdid it a little...but also sometimes things don't always get drawn great overseas.

Just because it's unintentional though, doesn't mean it isn't symbolic. Source.
What's with all this talk about a time machine? I'm pretty sure that was the agent's joke on Dr. Venture's terrible taste for decorating his bedroom.
I think you guys are overanalizing things, it really was just a joke on Venture's decorating habits. You are pretty much coming off like that guy in one of the interviews who asked them about Dr. Girlfriend knitting and what that meant, and they just said it was a throwaway thing, she was just knitting, nothing more to it.

Don't forget, though, that in the season 4 trailer there's the whole bit with "I'm you from the future!"

I'm willing to concede that. My secret MO is suggesting that there's a reason why
the episode was chronologically out of order.
If it's just because "we thought it would be a fun trick," that's all right. If it is something larger though, that's super-all right.

The problem with Hatred is that he is only occasionally amusing as opposed to 100% all the time great, unlike pretty much everyone else

I think I mostly just absolutely adore the guy's voice actor. I do wish he was funnier, but man, when they couple that VA's extremes with Hatred's bulging eyes and usually on-the-money facial expression ("I SAY AGAIN: LUSH!") I just lose it.

All the VAs are terrific.  I listened to these godawful Washington Mutual commercials on the radio just because James Urbaniak did the vocals.  The Venture Bros is one of the few shows where you could just have the actors reading lines off of whatever and you could just sit back and enjoy the banter.
