New server address is 8.2.122.142:25565.  We'll probably get something friendlier in short order.

Everyone has carte blanche to ruin the copy of the old map we've got going there for a while, and then I'll reup it and we'll continue like nothing ever happened.

Crazy idea: if we start over after the Halloween update, petrify the old area using some clever block replacer, before moving the spawn point several miles. Replace almost every block type with cobblestone or unworked stone, and replace leaves, torches and maybe water with air blocks.

This way, the old area can be explored as a ruin, but not mined for resources.

Cool idea, but could have an adverse affect on all the glass. If glass gets replaced with air, there will be enormous lava-geysers everywhere. You'd have to be very careful about exactly what kind of replacement you do, and I don't have a clue how you'd go about engineering this.

Glass should go unreplaced, since you can't harvest it anyway.

The best troll would be to never roll back at all and force everybody to continue playing in the remains of our own destructive hubris.

We could also try and put major areas of the old map deep under the starting location of the new map, like Futurama, or off in the ocean, like Waterworld.

So, when joxam uploaded the map to brentai, I generated an overviewer map from it.
You can browse that here.
I was going to make it so that there was a map marker for every signpost, but I discovered that we have WAY TOO MANY.

Oh and if you're wondering why it doesn't look like default minecraft tiles, it is because I installed the painterly texture pack on Kayin's recommendation.

Haha, at first I had only seen Kayin's pic of it and thought "wow, it still looks pretty awesome even with a giant hole blown through it", but this is another grade of destruction entirely... and it's still somewhat recognizable! :glee:

That screenshot with all the signposts is kind of like a treasure map, but instead of finding Spanish doubloons, you find abbreviated, often sarcastic text.

The overviewer devs really need to find a way to incorporate street-view style views. I can only imagine how much more data that'd require, though.

Server's back to normal now, which is to say it resembles Joxam's server before the switch.  Enjoy!

... That's weird, why 128 instead of 256?

I mean, I expected to be wrong, but I expected it to be a multiple of a byte.

EDIT:
1/2 is not a multiple. Shut up.
